Hi Polygots, I would like to add a new localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ (international/standard) English for European Union – English (EU).

Maintaining a localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ is a relatively big task. Do you have a team that is prepared to dedicate time to this?
In what way is this language different from #en_GB ? For what do you need this locale?

Actually, I have no Team at this moment but I think this project will be relevant for many people because the standard English located in a general European area is sought by many of us. The #en_GB is good but it is located in the UK and a lot of us work with English out England and Ireland, the two main places of the #en in Europe.

Except for the language code, what language differences do you see between #en_GB and #en_EU ?
Note that even en_IE has not been established yet as a WordPress localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/, since there currently is no team available that would be willing to maintain it.

The main problem is SEO indication on the world wide web. If the language code is a specific country the indication is related to this country. Now, the English language is the main language for connecting many people in the world. Maybe is a good thinks if WordPress considered the opportunity of one international English version.

Actually, the #en_EU code, at this moment, is not existent in the ISO 3166 Country Codes but the generic form of English yes, like #EN for an international English usage.

There is a nice book ratated to “International English Usage“.

Maybe is possible to consider a version like this bellow:

I think that there is no such thing as “the English typically spoken in Europe”…
And setting up a whole localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ with all its administration just for technical SEO purposes is also strange.
Further: A generic “en” locale can’t really be created. Even if your site declare it’s locale as “en”, it would still need to select whether to spell -ize or -ise, etc. i.e. beneath that common declaration of “en” there would be various localesLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. It’s possible that the plugin you’re looking for already exists, I don’t know.

Some solutions for multilingual websites allow you do to declare what locale you’re showing to the world in your htmlHTML HTML is an acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language. It is a markup language that is used in the development of web pages and websites., and let you separately define which locale (and even language version) you’re actually using.

Another plugin that do something related is https://wordpress.org/plugins/preferred-languages/ which lets you define fallback locales if your preferred language isn’t available. If that one can be force-fed with a non-existing locale (like “en”) and then indicating en_GB as the preferred alternative, then you might be all set.

Thank you for the request. Could you please let us know in what way the localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ will be different than the original English of WordPress? What terms do you intend to change from the original? In what way?

We create WordPress localesLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ to allow local communities to bring a local flavour to the translaitons of the software. When we do versions of an existing locale ( good examples of this are Spanish and Portuguese where the languages have significant vocabulary and grammatical differences depending on the location they’re spoken at). We have created a locale for SEO purposes so far and I don’t think there’s a reason to do it considering English is the original language of WordPress.

I’m going to close this request for now.
