I have an i18nInternationalization Internationalization (sometimes shortened to I18N , meaning “I - eighteen letters -N”) is the process of planning and implementing products and services so that they can easily be adapted to specific local languages and cultures, a process called localization. This is the process of making software translatable. Information about Internationalization for developers can be found in the Developer’s handbooks. pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party for which a Brazilian friend has recently submitted about 105 translations on the Stable branch.

I’m not fluent in Portuguese so probably doesn’t make sense for me to be on the editorial team for that language.

I’m reaching out to see what would be the most useful next step. Incidentally my Español is not too bad so I might be of some use there.

Immediately, I would love to see my friend’s stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. approved so that I can import them into the plugin file system.

A qustion to @inefavel If the #pt_BR team finds your translations to be of good enough quality, would you be interested in being appointed translation editorTranslation Editor Translation editors can approve translations for projects. The GTE (General Translation Editor) and LM (Locale Manager) roles can add new users with the "Project Translation Editor" role that can approve translations for specific projects. A good start is to simply add some translations suggestions first, since that will allow the language team to judge your quality.

These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party (readme is not included in this) have been translated and validated a language pack for your plugin and the relevant language will be generated and distributed via automatic updates to relevant installations. For WordPress 4.6 and later this version takes precedence over any language file you may have included inside your plugin.

  Hard to say. Depends totally on when the #pt_BR team finds time to have a look and we’re all volunteers. But usually @sheilagomes and @felipeelia are around here every now and then.

You can approve the others now, but first, please, read our translation guidelines (specially the uppercase/lowercase section) and join our local slack instance.
