# Dear Polyglots! Apologies if this…

Dear Polyglots! Apologies if this is not the correct place to post this question…
I was wondering how we can approve the “waiting” translations available in [our plugin](https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/zendesk-request-form).
Do we need to approve editors first? Is it considered “ok” for us to approve the
[current contributors](https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/zendesk-request-form/contributors)
as the editor for their language? We don’t know any of them personally but are happy
to allow that.

Thanks 🙂

 3. Hi [@pipdig](https://profiles.wordpress.org/pipdig/)
 4. The idea around the current setup for translations of WordPress is that the localeLocale
Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region
code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all

Localization (sometimes shortened to "**l10n**") is the process of adapting a product
or service to a particular language, culture, and desired local "look-and-feel."

Per project translation, editors are appointed by a [general translation editor](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/glossary/#general-translation-editor)

Translation editors can approve translations for projects. The GTE (General Translation
Editor) and LM (Locale Manager) roles can add new users with the "Project Translation
Editor" role that can approve translations for specific projects. There are two
    different Translation Editor roles:
     [General Translation Editor](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/2017/08/21/dear-polyglots-apologies-if-this/?output_format=md#general-translation-editor)
    and [Project Translation Editor](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/2017/08/21/dear-polyglots-apologies-if-this/?output_format=md#project-translation-editor)),
who then will get a similar possibility to approve, reject and edit strings within
one or several projects. A project might typically be a plugin or a theme. Most

list of all locales supported by WordPress in [https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/)
have some kind of communication channel, where the involved people may discuss
how to best translate certain terms, etc. The translation environment offers a
locale glossary, where the GTE’s may enter preferred ways of translating certain
words and concepts. There are some global “general expectations” on the translations
in the Polyglots handbook. In addition, many locales have their own Style guide.(
Link to handbook can be found in the headerHeader The header of your site is typically
the first thing people will experience. The masthead or header art located across
the top of your page is part of the look and feel of your website. It can influence
a visitor’s opinion about your content and you/ your organization’s brand. It may
also look different on different screen sizes..)
 6. The huge amount of plugins and themes makes the translation task overwhelming for
just a few GTE’s, so yes, in order to have higher throughput, we’ll really need
quite a few PTE’s for each language.
(By the way, all these roles are performed
by volunteers, who may have varying amount of time available for this community
    work.)
 7. As a plugin developer, after checking with the concerned translators that they’re
interested in this, you may write a specifically formatted post in this blog and
tag the concerned locales to signal the corresponding GTE’s to have a look. (This
formal way may be convenient when you want to reach several locales at once, but
it’s not mandatory. A translator might as well just join the locale slackSlack

The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at [https://make.wordpress.org/chat/](https://make.wordpress.org/chat/)
and pingPing The act of sending a very small amount of data to an end point. Ping
is used in computer science to illicit a response from a target server to test
it’s connection. Ping is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them
a direct message (DM). Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when
the meeting starts.” one of the GTE’s about a project, the GTE could check some
already translated strings and if all is satisfactory – appoint the translator
    as PTE.
