TL;DR Looking for non-handbook reading material about what Polyglots do here.

As mentioned in today’s Polylogts chat, there is some discussion going on in the de_DE community about contributing (not only, but mostly in the context of localizationLocalization Localization (sometimes shortened to "l10n") is the process of adapting a product or service to a particular language, culture, and desired local "look-and-feel." and support), keeping quality up, fluctuation, unpaid versus paid contributers etc.

In case anyone here knows any good blog posts that would describe Polyglot processes for non-contributing readers (users, for lack of a better term), I’d be grateful for links. Handbooks go a bit too deep into medias res in tutorial style; something informative targeted at a broader audience would be excellent.

Basically, I’m looking for reading material that would describe how WordPress comes into existence and is maintained in other languages than EN. Posts don’t need to be in English, obviously.

We’re going to have to come up with something in German eventually, but I wanted to take a look beyond tellerrand first. 😉

Any links posted in the comments are highly appreciated!

Update: Since I received 2 private replies asking for clarification, I’m not looking for any sort of tutorial “How to translate WP into your language”-style. What I’m looking for is something along the lines of: “How come WP does even exist in your language”.
