I’d like to re-open this discussion – we’re heading into 2017 and would love to know if anyone is interested in reviving the Irish translation for 2017?

Hey @neel33,

Thanks for posting this for a discussion. If the current General Translation EditorsTranslation Editor Translation editors can approve translations for projects. The GTE (General Translation Editor) and LM (Locale Manager) roles can add new users with the "Project Translation Editor" role that can approve translations for specific projects. There are two different Translation Editor roles:
General Translation Editor and Project Translation Editor are not available to work on #ga anymore, you can join the team as a General Translation EditorGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on all projects for a specific locale. and pick up the work. We can also work on spreading the word around that the translation work is active again and try and help you get a few more people on the team.

How does that sound?

    That means that starting today, you’re in charge of the Irish translations. I just added you as a LocaleLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ Manager for #ga. Congrats!
    
    As I don’t know how familiar you are with the Polyglots teamPolyglots Team Polyglots Team is a group of multilingual translators who work on translating plugins, themes, documentation, and front-facing marketing copy. https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/. and processes, here is the general information you need to know:
    
    https://ga.wordpress.org/ – your RosettaRosetta The code name of the theme for the local WordPress sites (eg. bg.wordpress.org is a “Rosetta” site). All locale specific WordPress sites are referred to as “Rosetta sites.” The name was inspired from the ancient Rosetta Stone, which contained more or less the same text in three different languages. site (local site). You can log in with your wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ username and password from https://ga.wordpress.org/wp-admin. In our experience, a locale thrives when there’s a team behind it. So I would start by setting up the site and adding a page for potential translators to help out.
    
    The development project is set at https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/ga – please note that for a locale to get a language pack and an automatic release (and to appear in the WP dropdown on install and on the local site for download), the dev project, network admin, and admin projects need to be translated 100%.
    
    Alongside WordPress itself, it’s good to prioritize translating the projects that ship with it first – The default themes Twenty Sixteen, Twenty Fifteen, Twenty Fourteen and Akismet.
