## Status of translations before WordPress 4.6

There were some new stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software.
A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. added to 4.6 last week.
Latest update by Dominik ([@ocean90](https://profiles.wordpress.org/ocean90/)) regarding
hard string freezeString freeze The term "string freeze" is used by the core team
to mark the end of changes to the strings of an upcoming release. A string freeze
also means that there will be no more strings added to the core project. Sometimes
a string freeze has two phases a [soft freeze](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/glossary/#soft-freeze)
and a [hard freeze](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/glossary/#hard-freeze).
A string freeze is announced on the [Polyglots blog](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots)
by the current release lead. is, that we’re still looking at the same date. A week
before the release date we’re supposed to have the About page strings to translate.

The script for the release video is getting finalized this week as well.

WordPress 4.6 is scheduled for August 16th. That means that we’ll be preparing the
usual GTEGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred
to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on **all projects

## August Handbook sprint – who would like to get involved?

Handbook sprint means, we assemble a team, go through ALL of our documentation,
find the outdated parts, update them, find the missing parts and add them.

Petya ([@petya](https://profiles.wordpress.org/petya/)) will start going through
the handbook and would be happy to see volunteers to support her. **If your want
to join Petya in her efforts, please add a comment to this post or pingPing The
act of sending a very small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in computer
science to illicit a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping
is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM).
Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.”

## The next Global WordPress Translation Day

As there are still many more languages that we can provide additional orientation
for, the polyglot teams considers running a second GWTD in 2016 and include live
sessions on topics important for the team. It would also be great if we can bring
more content that would help plugins authors and translators connect.

A couple of team members already expressed their excitement to take part in another
GWTD this year. **Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments to this
post.**

Petya ([@petya](https://profiles.wordpress.org/petya/)) suggested to run the event
in November, so we have enough time to get more new people on board for locales
that currently aren’t that active.

## Open Discussion

There are issues where text stringString A string is a translatable part of the

displays with a lowercase “p” in the WordPress backend although being correctly
