Hey polyglots…I’ve been developing wordpress for a while now and I’ve been using the languages Spanish from Mexico or Spanish from Spain, but there are some words that confuse my clients. I usually fix them with plugins, but I’m sure there are more wordpress developers out there that are in the same situation. So my dev team and I think it’s time to start a Local for Spanish for Guatemala exclusivelly.

I add to this post the info required to request a new Local, I would really appreciate your support and let me know what you guys think. btw, I’m on slackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/! Before creating another Spanish locale, I’d like to ask you to chat to @luisrull about the time and effort it takes to maintain a separate locale. We’ve had a lot of requests for Spanish localesLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ and a lot of them get abandoned fairly quickly.

I hope you don’t mind this extra step, I just want to make sure you understand the time commitment that is involved with maintaining a subtranslation.

  Hey, I’ve clarify all my doubts regarding the estimated time and commitment needed to maintain a subtranslation. I’ve also talked to several wordpress developers of the wordpress community in my country and they all showed interest and excitement about the idea of a new local. So I think we have the necessary human resources.
  
  Also Luis Rull recommend me to ask you guys to put the complete ES translations(or at least the coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. WP) and from that we can make the modifications to our version. So if that is possible, I think that will help us boost our starting process.

Spanish Guatemala is now ready for action. Here are the important links:

All locale specific WordPress sites are referred to as “Rosetta sites.” The name was inspired from the ancient Rosetta Stone, which contained more or less the same text in three different languages. site (local site). So I would start by setting up the site and adding a page for potential translators to help out.

Alongside WordPress itself, it’s good to prioritise translating the projects that ship with it first – The default themes Twenty Fifteen, Twenty Fourteen and Twenty Thirteen and Akismet.
