# Wondering about Armenian translation implwmwntation The existing group…

Wondering about Armenian translation implwmwntation. The existing group has been
created back in 2011, however, up to now they (consisting of 7 members) have translated
5% of the stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation
consists of a multitude of localized strings., and the translationquality is mostly
awful. Only today I have added the translations for 560 strings in 4.2.x language
file but then decided to stop and ask – what if they will approve my work in the
same way they do their own translations? In such case I would highly appreciate
to become a moderator to have the translation ready ASAP. Regards,

[https://wordpress.org/](https://wordpress.org/) yet 1 month ago but my mail

and they are still waiting for approval which I feel will never happen. FYI,
I am the only accredited Joomla translator for Armenian language – as you probably
know, Joomla contains 8,740 rows in total which is 2 times more than wordpress

in translating and editing Armenian translations. Currently I work in plugins

file locally in plain text format to be able to compare similar words and phrases
when translating different rows for not to have 2 and more Armenian words for
a single English word. Hope to finish my work in next 4-5 days, after that I

 53. [@Petya](https://profiles.wordpress.org/Petya/), up to now I did not receive
any confirmation regarding adding myself to the list of translators, and when
trying to translate online I still get “Suggest translation” option only. BTW,
I have checked and found that there are 1618 pending translations for Development
      release, please check at [https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/hy](https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/hy)
I don’t know if when they have been suvbmitted but it seems that someone else
does the translation work without getting confirmation from anyone, and all of
this work may be removed once I import my translation after getting the access.
Do you see if how many problems this delay caused?

 56. Good morning [@aaleksanyants](https://profiles.wordpress.org/aaleksanyants/),
 57. As I said before, I understand your enthusiasm and your eagerness to help with
      the Armenian translations.
 58. I can assure you your efforts are highly appreciated and the team would love
to have Armenian at 100% and supported from this moment forward. However, before
adding you as an editor, with everything you’ve said in the conversation so far,
I feel like I need to make a couple of things clear:
 59. * By becoming a Translation editorTranslation Editor Translation editors can
approve translations for projects. The GTE (General Translation Editor) and
LM (Locale Manager) roles can add new users with the "Project Translation

you become a part of a team where every member’s opinion should be as valid
and respected as yours. Translating WordPress is a community effort and the
more members a team has, the better for the project.
       * In the Polyglots teamPolyglots Team Polyglots Team is a group of multilingual
translators who work on translating plugins, themes, documentation, and front-
         facing marketing copy. [https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/)

time than we expect to perform a task as every team consists of volunteers
         just like yourself.
       * Please consider that the people you talk to or request things from might be
in a different timezone – the Polyglots team takes care of 150 localesLocale

 60. **About the pending translations:**
 61. The pending translations for the development project come from at least 5 different
translation contributors, meaning there is a lot of interest to translate Armenian.
This is great! It means even though the translation editors have been inactive
for a while, there are a lot of people interested in translating.
 62. Now that they have you and [@progmastery](https://profiles.wordpress.org/progmastery/),
their future contributions won’t be in vain.
 63. Even if you plan to upload a new version of the translations now, in the future,
the recommendation would be to try and validate the translations suggested so
that you can keep people coming back to help out and grow the team.
 64. I am adding you and [@progmastery](https://profiles.wordpress.org/progmastery/)
to the team now (It’s Monday morning, 9am where I am). You should receive an
invite with a confirmation link shortly.
 65. Thank you for your persistence and hard work. And thanks for your patience in
      the future.
 66. Welcome to the team 🙂

      detailed response,
 71. I agree with the statement that the translation should be perfomed by taking
into account other contributors’ suggestions, however there must be a single
person to decide if the suggestion is better than the original (if any) or not(
especially if it is done for fixing a typo), otherwise we should get terminology
and writing style inconsistencies which will be very hard to reveal and fix later.

 82. Hey Andrey,
 83. I understand your point of view completely, I am a translation editorTranslation
Editor Translation editors can approve translations for projects. The GTE (General
Translation Editor) and LM (Locale Manager) roles can add new users with the "
Project Translation Editor" role that can approve translations for specific projects.
There are two different Translation Editor roles:
       [General Translation Editor](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/2015/07/10/wondering-about-armenian-translation-implwmwntation-the-existing-group/?output_format=md#general-translation-editor)

myself. Consistency is important, but what’s also important is for a team to
work together and nurture new contributors. That means that there shouldn’t be
one single person deciding on translations – we’re not talking about typos here,
of course those should be corrected. I’m talking about discussions within the
team, that you will be making with other translation editorsTranslation Editor

 84. That means that if you and [@progmastery](https://profiles.wordpress.org/progmastery/),
for example, don’t agree about a term, as you’re both translation editors, his
opinion is as valid as yours. In case you don’t agree on how something should
be translated, I would suggest seeking the opinion of a third party, consulting
with a dictionary, looking for what other popular or FOSS projects translated
into the language are doing with that term. You can also ask here or in the Polyglots
channel on SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform [https://slack.com/](https://slack.com/).
The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at [https://make.wordpress.org/chat/](https://make.wordpress.org/chat/)
about what translation teams are doing with a specific term.
 85. Languages are elusive and always changing, always evolving. That’s what makes
them fascinating, especially in terms of translating software, where so many
more things need to be taken into account. How a localeLocale Locale = language
version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance
es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported
      by WordPress in [https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/](https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/)
is translated is very much the vision of the translation editors about how the
software addresses the user. If you and [@progmastery](https://profiles.wordpress.org/progmastery/)
agree on that vision about Armenian, that would be great.
 86. To help translators further, I strongly suggest you start out by creating a glossary
for common terms – it will help future contributors be clear about how a specific
term is translated. Glossaries are highly appreciated by all translators and
working on one gives a translation team peace of mind that they’ve set proper
guidelines for everyone who wishes to translate.
 87. It’s super exciting to talk to someone who sounds so devoted and enthusiastic
about translations. Happy to have you on the team 🙂
 88. Cheers!

 91. I do like very much your suggestion regarding the creation of the glossary, just
wondering if there already is a POT filePOT file POT files are the template files
for PO files. They will have all the translation strings left empty. A POT file
is essentially an empty PO file without the translations, with just the original
strings. which could be used for this purposes.
       BTW, it seems that something
is going wrong with files uploading, the only file I could successfully upload
was admin-network file, while two others after 5 minutes waiting display 504
error page, and when trying to resubmit I get progress showing more than 100%
