We’ve written a page that explains what the calendar is about, and how to submit an event.
  Each event in the calendar is published on our Twitter account, via a dlvr.it (could be IFTTT too).
  Since we have set up this system, it became really easy to answer a question like “what’s the next WordPress event in XXX?”. I think displaying how many WP events there are also had a positive impact on encouraging local communities to start a group.

      Curious too @nao! I think it’s excellent to have a Google Calendar to avoid have meetings on the same night if they are close to each other (I am thinking about Torino/MIlano, Romagna/Bologna and Lucera/Barletta).

@Caspar I have found that in the Meetups I have attended in the U.S. And EU any way we can get the word out. (As “users” don’t think to search meetup.com) gets people in the door. Those people bring others. Once comhub has a widely published link, great. @wolly was able to figure out how to add authors. Both @lucasartoni and @francina were upgraded to Authors (they were previously Subscribers) and can post on it.wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users.   Thanks @samuelsidler: I think it’s great to have one blog to rule them all 🙂 There is nothing worse for a community than fragmentation, especially in its early stages (half of the Meetups listed above started in 2015!). Looking forward to contributing to the project.

@wolly I basically share your point of view on RosettaRosetta The code name of the theme for the local WordPress sites (eg. bg.wordpress.org is a “Rosetta” site). All locale specific WordPress sites are referred to as “Rosetta sites.” The name was inspired from the ancient Rosetta Stone, which contained more or less the same text in three different languages. (though I think “alpha” is a bit strong). WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ as a platform could use some love in various places. Tough the metaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress. team does a fantastic job imo, they can obviously only do so much.

However, focusing your undoubtedly achieving energy elsewhere, will eventually lead to more frustration as WordPress.org as the official home of WordPress will not go away. New users will always look in this direction and be confused about the self-hosted site, or the other way around. Neither of both sites will profit from a situation like that in the long run, much less will the Italian community. I’m sharing personal experience here, so please don’t think I’m trying to “preach”.

On a sidenote, I’d so love to learn more about Italian WordPress history. 🙂 Would you be open to a conversation with a beer in front of us? At a WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. in Italy some time soon maybe even? 😉 *hint hint*

I can resume WP italian story. I translate WP since 2004 wolly joined in 2005 when wpitaly was borne. Since then we provided at every rrelease (usually in a day or 2, rarely in a week) an italian version available for download long time before we had wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ site release versione for localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/, since then we provided free support thourgh a forum etc. Since there is pother projects we spent tons of hours to translate and approve and revision submission translation proposal (wit’s months we are asking to have on glotpressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. More information is available at glotpress.org. 2 things that are fundamental to encourage contributors (and not are not the gamification and other funny stuff). During all this time we never mixed the business side of wordpress works we do, we firmly kept the free side always free and not a way to flow people to ask our services. Since quite a years asound we are doing all wrong… but ok.

That’s the story. I still do release, answering mails from the contact form, you know that 80% are related to something I shuldn’t care: wordpress.comWordPress.com An online implementation of WordPress code that lets you immediately access a new WordPress environment to publish your content. WordPress.com is a private company owned by Automattic that hosts the largest multisite in the world. This is arguably the best place to start blogging if you have never touched WordPress before. https://wordpress.com/ sites, but i still spend my time to anser giving the address where they can find helps for it. ( I wonder if i should still spend time for a business site for free?).

I will still do that work for the community till someone will tell me I’m not more useful and my works is unnecessary cause they can do better and show me where the exit door is.

  Two things I’d like to point out: a) every contribution is not only accepted, but also welcomed, including yours, especially because of your experience across the board, and b) it’d be great to have more of that from others as well, also for aspects that should deserve more attention such as community events, all under the light of the official dot org ecosystem.

I think nobody here is questioning the quality and quantity of work you guys are providing since the very beginning of the project. Glad to see lot of WP meetups growing in italy, joining a bit late to the discussion so I’ll make a general reply.

I agree that it.wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ should be a central point for the italian community, in addition to being under the official foundation domain its also the first result for several google searches (i.e. WordPress Italia and similar) so it would be a shame to have it outdated and lacking info.

@wolly and @steveagl I’m sure that mostly everyone in the italian WP community is aware of your work on localizationLocalization Localization (sometimes shortened to "l10n") is the process of adapting a product or service to a particular language, culture, and desired local "look-and-feel.", support, promoting WP in italy since the early days and the role of wpitaly.it, and not looking forward to exclude you, hope to see collaboration across all the community going forward

I’m excited for some renewed energy here – and to echo all the commenters before me – @wolly and @steveagl you have contributed so much to the community and no one is debating that. Your work has been wonderful, and appreciated!

There’s still so much more we can do as a community, and it’s great to start getting organized around that, especially being able to activate and incorporate new tools the rest of the WP community is using like SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. and Meetups, the RosettaRosetta The code name of the theme for the local WordPress sites (eg. bg.wordpress.org is a “Rosetta” site).
