Weekly Meetings

To get started, go to https://translate.wordpress.org/languages/nn, log in with your wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ username, pick a project (I would recommend starting with the Development stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings., those are the WordPress front end strings, then continue with WordPress Administration, Network administration, Twenty Fifteen and Akismet) and start suggesting translations.

The Translator Handbook might be of use, if you’ve never used GlotPressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. More information is available at glotpress.org., the translation management system we use for WordPress, here are some tips on how to use it.

The validators for Norwegian Nynorsk are @peterhol and @meinmycell (https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/?locale=nn_NO), they can approve your translations. I would recommend contacting @peterhol and discussing the possibility of you joining him as a validatorValidator See translation editor. at some point.

  Hello! This would be great. Unfortunately, I am not proficient enough in nynorsk, so I will not be able to validate. @meinmycell was, but I don’t think he is active anymore. Maybe @chriscena should just be given validatorValidator See translation editor. rights for nn_NO right away? I can provide support.

Hello @chriscena. As I said above, I am not proficient in nynorsk. But maybe it would be a good idea to start out by first importing all the bokmål stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. from WordPress 4.1, marking all of them as fuzzy translations, then importing all of the old nynorsk strings, overwriting the bokmål ones where available, and then going to work on those who are still fuzzy (ie. bokmål)?

  @peterhol, thanks for replying. I love the idea of reusing as much of the existing translations as possible to save time and effort. Let’s see what @chriscena thinks about that too.

    @petya @peterhol Sounds like a good idea. But do I import the entire translation or just the missing ones? Also I need to browse through the existing nynorsk translation to learn about the chosen wording conventions.

@chriscena and @peterhol, it would be great to get some work done on nn_NO. I am not completely inactive, but plenty of RL issues has left me unable to do much translation. I will have to step back for the next few years, so it would be wonderful to get new personnel – welcome aboard.

Just a questiion @petya: Is it necessary to import nb stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. over existing nn strings? There are strings in the 4.1 nn project, wouldn’t it be best to just keep on translating there?

  You can choose the approach with the team – you don’t have to upload stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings., but you can, depending on what you three decide is best for everyone. I think @peterhol and @chriscena were just looking for a way to save some time and effort in order to bring the project to 100% a bit faster.
