Notes from the polyglots chat on Oct 15

Hey everyone!

Here’s a quick summary of today’s Polyglots chat.

Note: How can we reschedule so more people are able to participate? What times would be good for you? We can try and schedule different times so people can attend at least once per two weeks.

Nacin had some things to share:

There’s been a lot of under-the-hood changes.

  • RosettaRosetta The code name of the theme for the local WordPress sites (eg. bg.wordpress.org is a “Rosetta” site). All locale specific WordPress sites are referred to as “Rosetta sites.” The name was inspired from the ancient Rosetta Stone, which contained more or less the same text in three different languages. and .org installs are now merged. For a long time Rosetta was a separate WordPress install that shared users with the main install on .org
  • This will make it easier to do some cool things down the line, like have a team page (check out https://de.wordpress.org/team/)
  • In the case of German, /team stomps the existing team page URLURL A specific web address of a website or web page on the Internet, such as a website’s URL www.wordpress.org
  • This is the same P2p2 "p2" is the name of the theme that blogs at make.wordpress.org use (and o2 is the accompanying plugin). When asked to post something "on the p2" by a member of the Polyglots team, that usually means you're asked to post on the team blog https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/. theme used for the make.wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ sites; a new theme is not necessary, though Nacin still needs to fix the headers
  • The /team P2s should be in place in the next few days

Thing to figure out:

  • Feature set
  • Users
  • Moderation

Questions:

  • Who should be editor on the P2?
  • Should the users be the same as those of the rosetta site so they’re only changeable in one place? That would make anyone with a role on the main site automatically an editor of the P2.
  • Would we want people to be able to post on the P2 but not be validators? (Yep, we would)
  • We could give forum moderators access to be P2 editors.

Notes:

  • Who can comment on the P2: People who have never posted before should be moderated the first time they participate on the P2. That’s how make/polyglots works now.
  • We’ll add an option to allow moderated P2 posts to be transferred to the forums.
  • The P2s will become the new contact form

Rosetta sites & forums slugs in English

We don’t need to change english slugs in the urls for now.

Projects to work on at WCSF

Full suggested list is here:

  • Translation handbook
  • GlotPressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. More information is available at glotpress.org. Roadmap
  • GlotPress homepage and UXUX UX is an acronym for User Experience - the way the user uses the UI. Think ‘what they are doing’ and less about how they do it./UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think ‘how are they doing that’ and less about what they are doing.
