You can help translate WordPress to your language by logging in to the translation platform with your WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ account and suggesting translations (more details).

Want to help in managing and validating translations? Get in touch with the existing language team and follow the glossaries & style guides if the team has them.

bg BG is not available in the installation…

bg_BG is not available in the installation process of 4.0.

Testing the issue with the failing downloads from RosettaRosetta The code name of the theme for the local WordPress sites (eg. bg.wordpress.org is a “Rosetta” site). All locale specific WordPress sites are referred to as “Rosetta sites.” The name was inspired from the ancient Rosetta Stone, which contained more or less the same text in three different languages. sites, I tried to make a fresh install of 4.0 to make sure choosing a language works there and I found that bg_BG is missing from the languages list.

It’s at 100% on Translate.wordpress.orgtranslate.wordpress.org The platform for contributing to the translation of WordPress core, themes and plugins. and was there when 4.0 was released. This is a recent problem.

I dont remember ever seeing Bulgarian as a installation option on fresh installs from the release of 4.0 and I have done about 7 installs since the release. did eveything on this list from Nacin get done? https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/2014/09/04/instructions-for-4-0-which-will-be-released-in/

I actually thought it was a deliberate choice to delay it because of WCEU

  It wasn’t. It was obviously my mistake as I didn’t think building a package for 4.0 was a requirement for the language to go to the APIAPI An API or Application Programming Interface is a software intermediary that allows programs to interact with each other and share data in limited, clearly defined ways. that powers the language chooser.
  
  I thought it was enough for the projects to be at 100%.
  
  And then when I tested the package, I did it with the local build.
  
  So the question is now what? There has been a 4.0 package for bg_BG since September 29th. Are we going to have to wait for 4.1 to have Bulgarian in the language chooser?

It’s not the end of the world but it’s really unsettling…

    If I remember it was info that appeared late and there was definatly more important things for you to be concentrating on :).
    
    I think now it is best to work towards it going into 4.1 unless there is a plan to get all the languages that arent on the installer yet ready for a point releaseMinor Release A set of releases or versions having the same minor version number may be collectively referred to as .x , for example version 5.2.x to refer to versions 5.2, 5.2.1, 5.2.3, and all other versions in the 5.2 (five dot two) branch of that software. Minor Releases often make improvements to existing features and functionality..

Confirmed. https://api.wordpress.org/translations/core/1.0/?version=4.0 does not return a Bulgarian language pack.

    PingPing The act of sending a very small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in computer science to illicit a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM). Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.” @nacin 🙂

A pack was never built for Bulgarian because GlotPressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. More information is available at glotpress.org. thinks it is not at 100%. According to https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/admin, Bulgarian is at 99% with one untranslated stringString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings.. According to https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/admin/bg/default?filters%5Bstatus%5D=untranslated, it has no untranslated stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings.. I have manually cleared the counts cache (cc @nbachiyski @markoheijnen) and now Bulgarian is at 100% for the admin project. The language pack is being built now. (It takes about 15 minutes for *those* caches to refresh.)

  I’m still unsure how this could have happend. I thought it was because the counts didn’t got a reset after someone approves a waiting stringString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. but till now I wasn’t able to reproduce that locally.
  
  Also as @petya said, there was already a language pack for Bulgarian for a few weeks. I now assume someone changed a string and then something weird happened. I’m going to test more locally to see what is going on.
