Here are my notes from the Polyglots chat today for everyone who couldn’t be there:

Who is going to WCSF?

There will be about 20 + polyglots in SF, it would be great to finish some projects while we are together
We need to figure out projects we want to finish in the two days we will have there – a key point in today’s chat

Projects to work on at WCSF

Finish the Translators Handbook (it’s at 60% at the moment)
Create a clear GlotPressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. More information is available at glotpress.org. Roadmap
Discuss (start working on) GlotPress UXUX UX is an acronym for User Experience - the way the user uses the UI. Think ‘what they are doing’ and less about how they do it. Improvements
Discuss (start working on) the GlotPress blog Homepage
Have a discussion with @johnbillion, @nbachiyski, @nacin and others about multilingual content in WP
Start working on the global community P2s if we have the P2p2 "p2" is the name of the theme that blogs at make.wordpress.org use (and o2 is the accompanying plugin). When asked to post something "on the p2" by a member of the Polyglots team, that usually means you're asked to post on the team blog https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/. theme ready
Start deployingDeploy Launching code from a local development environment to the production web server, so that it's available to visitors. new local forums if we have the bbPressbbPress Free, open source software built on top of WordPress for easily creating forums on sites. https://bbpress.org. theme ready

How can you help?

If you want to help with finishing the Translators Handbook pingPing The act of sending a very small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in computer science to illicit a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM). Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.” @Petya or @samuelsidler. You can see our progress and what still needs to be done in this document.
If you’ll be in WCSF and/or you think there’s an important thing we need to work on and we missed, please raise your hand.
If you are Remkus @defries :), could you please share your progress and intended timeframe on the bbPress theme so we know if we’ll be able to start deploying new forums at WCSF? Also if you need any help with that, there are several people that are prepared to help. Thx!
If you’re @markoheijnen, could you please share your progress on the GlotPress profiles? Thaaank you.

Do know that there is a chance that for translate.wordpress.orgtranslate.wordpress.org The platform for contributing to the translation of WordPress core, themes and plugins. the links will redirect to the main profile page and that it will use the APIAPI An API or Application Programming Interface is a software intermediary that allows programs to interact with each other and share data in limited, clearly defined ways. to retrieve all the info.

I’ll be there, and obviously happy to help on anything polyglot. I’ll be happy to help on the handbook, for instance, and have quite a few ideas for bbPressbbPress Free, open source software built on top of WordPress for easily creating forums on sites. https://bbpress.org. in order to make it truly useful for administrators and moderators. Finally, I want to be part of any discussion about RosettaRosetta The code name of the theme for the local WordPress sites (eg. bg.wordpress.org is a “Rosetta” site). All locale specific WordPress sites are referred to as “Rosetta sites.” The name was inspired from the ancient Rosetta Stone, which contained more or less the same text in three different languages. sites, and how they can relate to current local and community sites (if any).

Note quite polyglot-specific, but there’s also a Community-related (well, WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. I will not be at WCSF. I’ve still been playing catch up mostly the last two weeks and I’ve set aside some time this weekend to start fleshing out what needs to be done. Will post back here after the weekend with a schedule.

Hi, guys, I’d love to participate in these meetings, however at this time it’s impossible to me, so I’ll follow you here.
That said, I’ll be there at WCSF and I’ll stay for the Community Summit and the teams meetups. I’ll be happy to help you with all the projects listed above. I guess we can decide there to which ones my help would be more valuable.
About multilingual content, particularly, my colleagues at work (hacklab.com.br) also developed a pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party very similar to Simon’s, I guess they even contributed with each other. When I was at the first Community Summit I put them in contact and they exchanged some messages. It didn’t advance much, but one of my colleagues Rodrigo Primo (https://profiles.wordpress.org/rodrigosprimo) will also be attending so he probably could help a lot with that.
BTW I’ve added a PS with a link to the chat log 😉
