You can help translate WordPress to your language by logging in to the translation platform with your WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ account and suggesting translations (more details).

Want to help in managing and validating translations? Get in touch with the existing language team and follow the glossaries & style guides if the team has them.

Hi guys, I would like to request a directory for the nl_BE localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ in the WordPress Localization RepositoryWordPress Localization Repository The WordPress Localization Repository at https://i18n.svn.wordpress.org/ is a Subversion repository where official WordPress translations are maintained. See Working with the Translation Repository for details. + svn commit privileges. With the introduction of WordPress 3.0.x the nl locale was reverted to nl_NL, thus opening up the possibility to provide the Belgians with their own proper (Flemish) locale.

A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ 🙂 That was one of the reason I made the switch back to nl_NL 😀 .

Also, Flemish has its own code, vls. Wouldn’t it make more sense to use that?

  In general, Flemish is not considered as a separate language, but as a dialect / variant of Dutch. But I guess you’re right that using a vls localeLocale Locale = language version, often a combination of a language code and a region code, for instance es_MX denotes Spanish as it’s used in Mexico. A list of all locales supported by WordPress in https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/ would indeed make sense. However, this is somewhat of a touchy subject, in view of the recent nationalistic struggles here in BE. I must say that I find it quite difficult to decide on this one. Would it for example be possible to use vls and put a redirect (or a friendly message) on the nl-be page?

    As an outsider, I would think using nl_BE would be more safe since most other open-source software that uses translations use that code as well…

      Remkus’ argument makes sense to me. Having lived in Belgium, I’m acutely aware of the ‘Vlaams’ designation issue. I’d say we move on with nl_BE and keep vls reserved for future usage. I’ll need your .org username to get the ball rolling.
