There has been some confusion in the danish community about the 3.0.x project in GlotPressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. More information is available at glotpress.org..

I understand it as the 3.0 branch and as such we should import the 3.0 branch (from SVNSVN Apache Subversion (often abbreviated SVN, after its command name svn) is a software versioning and revision control system. Software developers use Subversion to maintain current and historical versions of files such as source code, web pages, and documentation. Its goal is to be a mostly compatible successor to the widely used Concurrent Versions System (CVS). WordPress core and the wordpress.org released code are all centrally managed through SVN. https://subversion.apache.org/.) into it. I haven’t done that though, because I remember Nikolay saying it was kinda ment for testing or as a sandbox.

I’ve tried to explain that it should just be ignored and that the “Development (future 3.1)” project is the current version with the right stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. etc. AKAS the trunk.

Despite of this a lot of strings is waiting for validation in 3.0.x which is silly.

So how should I explain the 3.0.x project it in a way that everyone understands?

Let me try:

GlotPressGlotPress GlotPress is the translation management software that powers Translate.WordPress.org. It is typically used to translate program code, and may be loaded or imported into the GNU gettext program. This is the format used in a WordPress install. These files are normally located inside .../wp-content/languages/’s to build localized releases. The version contributors should be working on, is always the next one (today, that’s “future 3.1”). Previous versions on GlotPress exist should the need to rebuild a corrupt/incomplete release arise. This is almost never the case.

Many (actually, I don’t really know how many) people install WordPress in, say, English, and then want to change their installation’s language. In this case they’d need to change the relevant setting in config.php and download the applicable language files.

I hope that from the above, it is clear that the stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. in SVN and GlotPress should always be in sync.

  I agree with you. But what about 3.0.x? That project is causing the confusion. I say ignore it, but I am accused of not “understanding the purpose of it”.   Although, come to think of it, those plugins are svn:externals, I think. I knew I forgot something :), stay tuned.
