There are some stringsString A string is a translatable part of the software. A translation consists of a multitude of localized strings. in Twenty Ten 1.3-alpha .pot which purpose is unclear to me, since they don’t seem to be used anywhere. They are commented as follows:

More information is available at glotpress.org. have this kind of strings too. Is this a groundwork for translatable descriptions in the future? Are they intended for translation? Am I missing something?

When gettext tools are used for generation of POT filePOT file POT files are the template files for PO files. They will have all the translation strings left empty. A POT file is essentially an empty PO file without the translations, with just the original strings. for pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. The masthead or header art located across the top of your page is part of the look and feel of your website. It can influence a visitor’s opinion about your content and you/ your organization’s brand. It may also look different on different screen sizes.. If translated, you will see those translations at WP’s admin.
