# Reminder: We can’t rename plugins post approval.

When you submit a pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group
of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality
or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in
the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can
be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory [https://wordpress.org/plugins/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/)
or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party., the plugin slug (i.e. the URLURL
A specific web address of a website or web page on the Internet, such as a website’s
URL www.wordpress.org) is determined from your plugin’s display name, as set in
the main plugin file. The slug can be changed while a plugin is in review but we**
_cannot_** change it once your plugin is approved.

That’s why, when you submit a plugin, we send you an _automatic_ email telling you
what your slug is, and asking you to please reply immediately if that slug is wrong.
We also show you what the slug will be on the post-submission page.

If you fail to tell us before we approve your plugin, you’re going to be stuck with
the name you got, unless there’s an extenuating circumstance (like a legal issue,
or a typo). We do not accept ‘resubmissions’ to fix the name, as we’re making every
reasonable effort to get the information out there for you to act on.

Please. Make sure you read the emails. Make sure you check the slug after you submit.
Tell us right away when you spot something wrong. And above all? Remember you have
full control of your slug in your own submission 🙂

 3. What about cases when your pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing
a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend
functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins
are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress.
These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory [https://wordpress.org/plugins/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/)
or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. is ok but suddenly its resources
are blocked by AdBlockers because the plugin name contain words like ad… can someone
    do something about?

     * No, but realistically a rename doesn’t fix those anyway. The adblockers have(
in our experience) just added the new name 🙁 Happened a couple times already.
     * Also remember: We cannot transfer your USERS to a new pluginPlugin A plugin
is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to
a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your
WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language

       org Plugin Directory [https://wordpress.org/plugins/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/)
or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party.. You’d be abandoning them all,
and end up with a bunch of very angry 1-star reviews about that. Again, it’s
happened before. That’s why we don’t allow it unless it’s an extreme circumstance.
It’s generally a terrible experience for everyone.

 7. Is there a reason why pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a
group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality
or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in
the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can
be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory [https://wordpress.org/plugins/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/)
or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. authors cannot manually specify
a slug when submitting a plugin? It would remove some of the ambiguity of not knowing
how a display name will actually be converted.

     * They can. It’s defined by the display name in your main pluginPlugin A plugin
is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to
a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your
WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language
and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.
       org Plugin Directory [https://wordpress.org/plugins/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/)
or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. file. So if you want the slug
wc-monkey-banana make that your display name.
     * When we had a text box, people didn’t understand we were asking for the URLURL
A specific web address of a website or web page on the Internet, such as a website’s
URL www.wordpress.org/Slug and put in descriptions, making it worthless :/
