Approving and Rejecting Photos

Onboarded moderators will be given access to the Photo Directory. You’ll then be able to view photos held in moderation, and approve or reject photos!

Viewing photos in moderation

  • Photo submissions are of the “Photo” post type, which is accessible from the admin sidebarSidebar A sidebar in WordPress is referred to a widget-ready area used by WordPress themes to display information that is not a part of the main content. It is not always a vertical column on the side. It can be a horizontal rectangle below or above the content area, footer, header, or any where in the theme. menu under “Photos”.
  • Photos in moderation are in the “Pending” post status. These can be directly accessed via the “Queue” link under “Photos” in the admin sidebar menu.
  • The admin listing of posts provides some information about the photo, but you must actually edit the post (by either clicking the photo or the post title) to view all information about the submission in order to access whether the photo should be approved or not.

Approving a photo

After assessing the suitability of the photo and entering appropriate metadata (both using the tools and guidelines), to approve a photo:

  1. When editing a photo post simply press the “Publish” button.
  2. Optional: You can include a message in the approval email sent to the contributor by providing the message in the “Note to user” text area above the “Publish” button. For an approval, there’s unlikely a need to leave a note to the contributor, but you can. Possible reasons might include indicating an image was borderline for some reason (e.g. quality) and that future submissions should improve on that front.
  3. Optional: You can include a private message that can only be seen by other moderators by providing the message in the “Private moderators-only note” text area above the “Publish” button.
  4. A note to the user and a private note for moderators can both be provided.

Rejecting a photo

If a photo is not deemed suitable for the site, then reject it:

  1. Change the “Reject due to:” dropdown to select the reason for the rejection. The rejection reason chosen will include a default explanation for that type of rejection in the rejection email.
  2. Optional: You can include a message in the rejection email sent to the contributor by providing the message in the “Note to user” text area above the “Publish” button. It would be nice to specify what exactly might’ve been the cause for declining the photo.
  3. Optional, but recommended: You can include a private message that can only be seen by other moderators by providing the message in the “Private moderators-only note” text area above the “Publish” button.
  4. A note to the user and a private note for moderators can both be provided.
