     # Summary

 4. OpenverseOpenverse **Openverse **is a search engine for openly-licensed media,
including images and audio. Find Openverse on [GitHub](https://github.com/WordPress?q=openverse)
     and at [https://openverse.org](https://openverse.org). contributors discussed
priorities for December in this meeting. View the [full notes here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aUhpakIUy4we0BU0D3Pc7hqMJg_FpyxoB6eulBw6Z9c/edit#heading=h.krvwbq1oji37)
     and a summary below.
 5.
     ## Completed projects

 6. * [API response time assessment and reduction](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/3197)–
This has been moved to Success! There’s one task left to deployDeploy Launching
code from a local development environment to the production web server, so
that it's available to visitors., and we want to follow up with some Elasticsearch
experts to try and understand the (now much more sporradic!) peaks which we’re
seeing. But by and large, we are no longer experiencing the issues which instigated
        this project!
      * [Filter and blur sensitive results by term matching](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/377)–
We believed that we only needed to announce this in order to have it marked
as success, but in checking the project’s success criteria we actually determined
that we need to complete a few more tasks: upgrading the `unstable__include_sensitive_results`
parameter to a stable APIAPI An API or Application Programming Interface is
a software intermediary that allows programs to interact with each other and
share data in limited, clearly defined ways. parameter, and deprecating the`
        mature` parameter.
      * [Django ASGI](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/2843) – This has
been moved to Shipped since most of the code work on it is complete and we’re
currently running the application using ASGI in production! We have one last
task on this before considering it a success: removal of the separate, thumbnail
instance of the API we had running which exclusively handled thumbnail requests.
There are a few issues related to this work to change various routes from synchronous
to asynchronous, but those can be done outside the scope of this project.
 7.
     ## In progress projects

 8. * [Additional search views](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/410)–
A bulk of the work for this project is complete and deployedDeploy Launching
code from a local development environment to the production web server, so
that it's available to visitors. in staging! The maintainer team will be going
through the new search flows to try them out and identify any issues. There
are also a few more issues left in the milestone to complete. The team also
discussed the necessity of buttons for scrolling through the creator & source
        section.
      * [Sensitive content report moderation workflow](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/383)–
The copy change work is still available, and we’re going to focus on getting
the code up for review for these because each step requires a deployment and
will be very iterative. The rest of the implementation plans are also available
        and ready for work.
      * [ECS alarms for anomalous behavior](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/2344)–
Code work on this is done, we now need to follow through with each of the alarms
and stabilize them (which involves completing the runbooks and assessing their
        usefulness).
      * [Search relevancy sandbox](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/392)–
Implementation for this is under way, with primarily the index creation DAGs
and moving of the filtered index logic from the ingestion server into Airflow
        left.
      * (**Moved from RFC**) [Redis upgrade](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/3382)–
We are starting work on this project officially, and it will involve two pieces:
making the API resilient to the migrationMigration Moving the code, database
and media files for a website site from one server to another. Most typically
done when changing hosting companies., and running the actual migration.
      * (**Moved from On Hold**) [Nuxt 3 migration](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/411)–
Since support will be ending, the team will be focusing on this before the
end of the year. The team discussed a frontend code freeze before starting
this work in order to help make the migration easier. Since there are a number
of moving parts with this effort and questions to be answered (which branch
to use, how to manage deployments, etc.), an implementation plan will be drafted
to clarify the steps before proceeding.
 9.
     ## Up next

 10. The year is coming to an end, as as the maintainer team finishes the 2024 project
planning process, we discussed what else could feasibly be accomplished this year.
 11. * [Data normalization](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/430) – Pieces
of this effort were tackled here and there throughout the year. The team will
be looking into this to see what is left that might need to be done, and what
we can tackle before the year is up!
      * [Move Openverse API and catalog to `openverse.org` subdomains](https://github.com/WordPress/openverse/issues/2037)–
This one would be nice to do too while things are slower towards the end of
the year. Something to keep in mind!
