What’s New

Well, everything is new! WordPress for Android 7.8 was the first release with the new betaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. editor codenamed “Aztec”. We’re working through the final stages of getting the editor ready for everyone to use and you’re helping us make it better!

Here are a couple of new features added/fixed in Android 8.9:

  • Added spellcheck suggestions
  • Improved editing around images
  • Fixed undo/redo
  • Improved right-to-left (RTL) support
  • Lots of bug-fixes

Features to Test

  • Paragraphs: splitting the text up, merging paragraphs
  • Images: uploading, deleting, editing the image properties, inserting them inside other blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. elements
  • Videos: uploading, deleting, playback
  • Quotes: multiple lines, lists inside
  • Lists: adding, editing and deleting embedded lists
  • Try opening older posts in Aztec and compare it to the old editor (we’re looking for visual and UXUX UX is an acronym for User Experience - the way the user uses the UI. Think ‘what they are doing’ and less about how they do it. glitches/differences)
  • Toolbar: opinion of the available/missing buttons and the simple/advanced mode
  • Copy/pasting: styled text from external apps, non-latin characters, emoji, block elements
  • Most importantly: try to use the editor for regular posts and see what bothers you, what’s missing or what’s preventing you from having a good editing experience

We care about bugs, but we also care as much about what could be made easier from a usability point of view. Even if it sounds like a minor tweak, we want to hear from you!

Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription.
