πThe first ever online mobile βtableβ at Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/. took place yesterday on a Zoom call, in parallel with many other teams! We had some good attendance and most people stayed on for most of the 5 hours(!) of the event! Kudos to all that joined!
We started right after the opening remarks where we had the opportunity to see video introductions from all teams. Depending on the hour, we had something between 4 to 7 people online, while more than 10 people stepped by in total.
We had a nice vibe between the people attending, sharing thoughts and experiences. We also made short introductions of ourselves to get to know each other and better understand where everyoneβs coming from. Folks where really devoted to plowing ahead with the tasks and tickets while the star of the show β long compile times β wasnβt enough to deter them!
The topics that we touched were:
- Looking into adding new languages on GlotPress and the apps
- Updating onboarding documentation
- Fixing UIUI UI is an acronym for User Interface - the layout of the page the user interacts with. Think βhow are they doing thatβ and less about what they are doing. and code health issues
- Help setting the developer environment
Ajith opened and got a PR merged! Eli opened a PR, Stefanos verified and closed a linter ticket and opened an updated one, Hafiz dived into this ticket and Maxime made progress in figuring out the root cause and a possible for this ticket and added some French translations! Long compile/lint times was something that took away some of the steam and it would be nice if an effort to minimize those times can be followed up with.
We wrapped up the day by sharing plans on what weβll work next on the apps, we waved each other goodbye for now and wished to enjoy the rest of WCEU 2020! Albeit its shortcomings of not being physically present with others, the online version of the Contributor day was a success and some useful lessons can be reused next time! See you all at the WCEU 2020 Networking tracks π
