Call for testing: WordPress for iOS 11.1

Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. is available for testing on TestFlight. What to Test

What’s New:

  • A new Quick Start section suggests steps to help you build a great site.
  • With Mentions, you can read the whole push notification message from the home screen.
  • Want to copy the link to a comment? Long-press its timestamp label.
  • Want to know the word and character counts for posts? Check out the editor action sheet title.

Here are some quick tips to test these new features:

  1. Quick Start (~5-10 minutes): Create a new WordPress.comWordPress.com An online implementation of WordPress code that lets you immediately access a new WordPress environment to publish your content. WordPress.com is a private company owned by Automattic that hosts the largest multisite in the world. This is arguably the best place to start blogging if you have never touched WordPress before. https://wordpress.com/ site in the app, and when you visit the site’s dashboard follow the prompts to complete the quick start checklist.
  2. Mentions (<5 minutes): Make sure push notifications are enabled in your device settings. Ask another member of your site to @ mention you in a post or comment and check the notification from your home screen.
  3. Copy comment links (<5 minutes): Long-press the timestamp label for a comment anywhere in the app (Notifications, Reader, My Sites).
  4. Word/character count (<5 minutes): While writing a post, tap the ellipsis (…) menu in the top right to pull up the action sheet and check the count at the top. Try writing in other languages or adding non-text content and ensure the count is correct.

What’s Fixed:

Did you find a bug or come up with a feature request while testing? You can discuss it here, pingPing The act of sending a very small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in computer science to illicit a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM). Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.” one of us in the #mobile WordPress.org Slack room, report it using the TestFlight feedback link, or head straight to the iOS GitHub repository and open a new issue.
