# 󠀁[Trac updates](https://make.wordpress.org/meta/2014/01/15/trac-updates/)󠁿

Over the last month, I’ve been making [a lot of improvements](https://make.wordpress.org/core/2014/01/06/lots-of-improvements-to-core-trac/)
to TracTrac Trac is the place where contributors create issues for bugs or feature
requests much like GitHub.[https://core.trac.wordpress.org/](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/).,
which have been announced and documented on make/coreCore Core is the set of software
required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress..

At this point, I’ve brought _most_ of these improvements to _most_ Tracs on WordPress.
orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by
the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins
and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization.

[Core](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/), [meta](https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/),
[bbPress](https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/), [BuddyPress](https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/),
[GlotPress](https://glotpress.trac.wordpress.org/), [themes](https://themes.trac.wordpress.org/),
and [plugins](https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/) now all use WP.org cookie authentication,
SSLSSL Secure Socket Layer - Encryption from the server to the browser and back.
Prevents prying eyes from seeing what you are sending between your browser and the
server., and the refreshed design. bbPressbbPress Free, open source software built
on top of WordPress for easily creating forums on sites. [https://bbpress.org](https://bbpress.org)
and BuddyPress received their own skins. These Tracs also all gained image attachment
previews, email address syncing, IRC cross-references (for [#wordpress-meta](https://make.wordpress.org/meta/tag/wordpress-meta/),
[#buddypress-dev](https://make.wordpress.org/meta/tag/buddypress-dev/), [#bbpress-dev](https://make.wordpress.org/meta/tag/bbpress-dev/),
[#glotpress](https://make.wordpress.org/meta/tag/glotpress/), [#wordpress-gsoc](https://make.wordpress.org/meta/tag/wordpress-gsoc/)),
and various bug fixes and tweaks. A few other improvements (like comments columns)
require Trac report SQL updates, versus template or configuration changes. I’m happy
to help the developers on other Tracs to help make their reporting better, [something we’re also doing for core](https://make.wordpress.org/core/2014/01/10/brainstorming-ticket-reports/).

The metaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. For us,
this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and
Make WordPress. repository now includes configuration files shared by various Tracs,
to shine as much light as possible on everything. These files join [MySQL schemas, patches to Trac, a number of template files](https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/browser/sites/trunk/trac.wordpress.org),
[a lot of JS and CSS](https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/browser/sites/trunk/wordpress.org/public_html/style/trac/),
and even [a WordPress plugin](https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/browser/sites/trunk/wordpress.org/public_html/wp-content/plugins/trac-notifications/).

[Notifications are coming](https://make.wordpress.org/core/2014/01/09/new-trac-notifications-feature/)
very soon to BuddyPress, bbPress, GlotPress, and meta. Probably in the next few
days. Once a Trac is running the new notifications feature, that means it has been
migrated to MySQLMySQL MySQL is a relational database management system. A database
is a structured collection of data where content, configuration and other options
are stored. [https://www.mysql.com](https://www.mysql.com/), which means the data
is more accessible to the rest of WP.org, as well.

I’m sure I’ll continue to make tweaks to Core Trac in the coming months, but as
everything is now shared and well-organized, it won’t even need to “trickle down”—
they’ll be deployedDeploy Launching code from a local development environment to
the production web server, so that it's available to visitors. everywhere on the
first run.
