## Brainstorm

Below are some ideas to kick-start discussions. Feel free to comment on this post
with your ideas, too!

## Experienced Contributors

 * Keep logins to .org working well
 * Assist various team needs
 * Website Redesign collaboration

## New Contributors – Developers

 * Collaborate with PluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group
   of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality
   or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written
   in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These
   can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory [https://wordpress.org/plugins/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/)
   or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. Review and work on the [Plugin Directory component Trac backlog](https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/query?status=!closed&component=Plugin+Directory)
 * Configure local dev environments
 * [Work through Meta-WordCamp issues](https://github.com/WordPress/wordcamp.org/issues)

## New Contributors – Non-Developers

 * Create a blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup
   that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress
   editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with
   shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and
   user experience.-based theme close to team Make sites. “create an alternative
   block-based theme that’s similar to our existing make sites, do not worry about
   the actual functionality of them, we can move that out into separate plugins.”

# 󠀁[The Theme Directory gets a refresh and is now powered by blocks](https://make.wordpress.org/meta/2024/06/19/the-theme-directory-gets-a-refresh-and-is-now-powered-by-blocks/)󠁿

Over the past few weeks, the MetaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings
of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like
WordCamp Central and Make WordPress. team has been working on a new theme for the
[Theme Directory](https://wordpress.org/themes/), which is now powered by blocks.
This visual refresh is part of the continued effort to establish a consistent design
language across WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code
is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code
for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community
conversations and organization. [https://wordpress.org/](https://wordpress.org/).
The updated site launched today. Congratulations to everyone involved in this effort.

With this update, the site now uses a [block child theme](https://github.com/WordPress/wporg-theme-directory)
alongside the shared WordPress.org [parent theme](https://github.com/WordPress/wporg-parent-2021),
setting the stage for future improvements. The primary changes involved converting
everything to blocks and standardizing the layout, typography, and colors. Additionally,
the theme previewer was updated to include style variations and patterns registered
by the theme. This update builds on the launch of the [Plugin](https://make.wordpress.org/meta/2024/04/30/the-plugin-directory-gets-a-refresh/)
and [Pattern](https://make.wordpress.org/meta/2024/04/17/the-pattern-directory-gets-a-refresh-and-is-now-powered-by-blocks/)
directories introduced in April.

Here’s a look at the new [homepage](https://wordpress.org/themes/), followed by
a [single theme](https://wordpress.org/themes/twentytwentyfour/) page, the [theme previewer](https://wordpress.org/themes/twentytwentyfour/preview/),
and the updated theme filters.

When navigating the new theme, you will notice a few minor functional changes. For
example, the homepage no longer includes a “Load more themes” button. Pagination
is used instead, which also improves accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly

org.

## Next steps

The Theme Directory refresh is now live for WordPress.org and all foreign-language
sites (Rosetta sites). Some translation work may need to be done for each locale,
and that can be managed in the [WordPress Theme Directory](https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/meta/themes/)
project.

It’s important to reiterate that this refresh was not a complete redesign. The aesthetic
and architectural updates in this iteration purposefully did not alter how the Theme
Directory works at a fundamental level. Future updates should build on this work
and address the [functional changes](https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/query?status=accepted&status=assigned&status=new&component=Theme+Directory&order=priority)
requested by the community.
