4a. Social Media

Update via: @bjmcsherry

Our GitHub issue details how you can help share and amplify WordPress news on social media. You will also find a list of the primary WordPress.org social accounts there. This is a good first task for new contributors. You can get started participating in our online conversations and/or contributing content to one of our active campaigns.

Overall, we had another great week this past week and continued to trend above seasonal averages when looking at overall net-new followers as a primary statistic. In fact, we actually improved our net new followers by over 1.4K (1,455). This was an increase of 43% over the previous week. This is well above where we have historically been in for a non-release window. Many of our campaigns including the ‘Website Redesign’, ‘WP Diversity’, and the ‘WordPress 6.0’ campaigns scored high marks in some of our best examples throughout the week.
Overall, the numbers for the week look like this:

  • Impressions: 182,116
  • Engagements: 4,757
  • Link Clicks: 1,368
  • Messages received: 19

Meetup Reactivation campaign: The Community Team is embarking on a global WordPress Meetup reactivation project – if you’re available to help by reaching out to meetup organizers in your region, please read the post, and complete this form! Please note this is for both in-person and online meetups.

Polyglots July 2022 newsletter has been published! It includes a reminder of the Polyglots coffee break taking place tomorrow 28 July, latest stats, WordPress.org profile updates and more. Please read and share!

Month in WordPress July 2022: The expected publication date for the July 2022 edition of The Month in WordPress is Friday, August 5, 2022.
If you have any news or Make team updates that would be valuable and relevant to the post, please feel free to add them as a comment to the GitHub card (Card 84).

#GrowYourWordPress: @jpantani has noticed that engagement seems to be a bit higher with this campaign when it’s linked to Community (WordCamps), so tying it to similar initiatives is something to keep in mind as we promote it. Additionally, engagement seems better when the nudges are less frequent.
We’ve had a total of 11 submissions, and there are already quite a few good testimonials.

5. Diary dates – upcoming events and meetings

Our bi-weekly social coffee break is held by the Make Marketing team for all WordPress Marketing contributors, and occasional guests. Stop by and meet some of the friendly faces marketing WordPress. Follow this Google Calendar with meetings, collaborations, and social activities. We also list important dates in this Forthcoming Diary Dates post.

6. Open floor

@santanainniss would like to propose for consideration that the Meeting Notes follow the same outline as the Meeting agendas.
@nalininonstopnewsuk confirmed that they should follow the same. There are some updates pending on the meeting notes information in the handbook. These need to be updated together with this reference to the meeting agendas.

6.0 release update summarized from the GitHub card updated by @webcommsat

A systems and GitHub meeting is being set up on documentation aimed at end users, and pulling together the various skills/ contributors on this from documentation, training, marketing.

More details will be shared soon following an update with training/ WP Learn on potential changes that could be made on existing GitHub use.

The aim is to use GitHub to share and track the areas relating to end users more easily between the teams, now that marketing, documentation and Learn WP are moving / have moved to GitHub. Testing is being developed on how this could be done using some of the new GitHub tools.

Thank you to @bph, @milana_cap and @webcommsat who are leading the Documentation aspects for 6.0. They will share an update on this at a future meeting, and be chatting more with @dansoschin, @marybaum, @annezazu, and others too.

  • Translation Day interviews: captioning. Thank you to @Adeeb Malik and @lmurillom who have worked on captions. There are still more captions needed and to get videos ready for WordPress.tv. Volunteers needed.
  • Image and video editing volunteers welcome.

https://github.com/WordPress/Marketing-Team/discussions/18

  • Note re. Slack and Make WordPress onboarding videos.

There is currently an issue as the Make WordPress screens have changed slightly from the original videos. This is being looked into. Due to the world situation, we will need some additional volunteers to help with updating / synchronizing the new versions, and supporting the polyglots with this. The skills needed for this are mainly video editing.

If video and photo editing is something you enjoy, these are good and fun ways to get involved.

@femkreations has offered to help with images in the future.

If you would like to stand or nominate someone in the team who you feel would be a good team rep, you can do so in comments on the post or speak to one of the existing team reps. We have also been holding drop-in sessions if anyone has any questions.

  1. Ideas slot: 5.8 and minor releases: social media amplification pack further promotion opportunities and updating.

We have had lots of ideas on the document about cross-promoting the social media amplification pack for 5.8 and for future promotions. Thank you to everyone who submitted the items. Currently, the main places the social media amplification pack are promoted are:

  • The release leads group on Slack
  • The Core channel and devchat
  • Meetups newsletter and Month in WordPress

  • Social media channels
  • Blog posts

It has been suggested we also promote it on:

  • HelpHub
  • Testing locations with a specific section in the pack on testing and encouragement of testing

If you have any ideas, please share them in Slack.
