Our WordPress Social Media Amplification (GitHub ticket #7) details how you can help share and amplify WordPress news on social media. You will also find a list of the primary WordPress.org social accounts and campaign contacts if you would like to help craft content.
WordPress had a successful week this past week as we scored the highest amount of net-new followers for WordPress ever in a weekly period. With 1,946 new followers (a 6.9% increase over last week), we passed our September high when WordCamp US was running. Considering we didn’t have any major events this week (SOTW, WordCamp US/Asia/Europe) this is a milestone week for us. Impressions increased and while engagements are down, that can be attributed to a couple of campaigns that were more announcement only posts with no CTAs asking for direct clicks to the website. Instagram continues its meteoric rise with new followers again adding another 508 followers alone.
Part of the overall performance came from the WP News post on “Why WordPress” and WPDiversity. These 2 campaigns ended up in the top 3 for the week respectively. The WP News post actually ended up with 2 posts in the top 3.
Here is a look at some of the performance numbers for the last week:

#WPPhotos: @Reyes Martinez has shared this brief questionnaire to help gather some photo stories for social media. She will coordinate and collaborate with those who expressed interest to circulate it and encourage people to share any stories behind their photo contributions. It was an interesting week for WordPress this week. While Impressions and engagements are down slightly, we actually saw a remarkable increase in our coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. metric which was net-new followers over the week with 1,803 new followers for the week. This is a 15.3% growth over the previous week and included almost 200 new followers with Twitter as we start to see some normalcy in both performance and engagement again on the platform.
Part of the overall performance came from the WP News post for WordPress 20th Anniversary campaign. This was not only the top campaign but actually had the top 2 of 3 for the week, overall with social. The other campaign is part of the Learn WP series which also drove some of the highest levels of engagement for WordPress as these and others continue to see a very positive response and engagement from our followers.

Hello from your 2023 Marketing Team Reps: Santana Inniss (@santanainniss), Robin (@robinwpdeveloper), and Sé Reed (that’s me! @sereedmedia).
We are excited to announce the first marketing team meeting of 2023 will be held on Tuesday, 17 January at 15:00 UTC.
This is a new time and day for the weekly marketing meetings, which we’ve arrived at after parsing our diverse schedules and the 14 time zones between us! We know we could have kept an asynchronous approach to the meetings, but we wanted to find a time where the three of us could successfully rotate meeting management. We feel that this new meeting time will allow us to have the most productive and inclusive discussions throughout the year.
As we begin this new chapter, we also want to acknowledge the importance of work-life balance. Everyone on this team has responsibilities outside of WordPress contribution, whether it be caring for children and family or caring for ourselves. It is our goal to encourage a team culture that values and supports this balance, so that we can all be our best selves both at work and at home.
In addition to finding a new meeting time that works for everyone, we have also been working to get comfortable in our roles as team reps. Taking on this new responsibility can be challenging, but we are confident that with hard work and collaboration, we will be able to make a positive impact on the marketing team.
We want to thank the 2022 team reps for their hard work and dedication to the marketing team: Nalini Thakor (@nalininonstopnewsuk), Larissa Murillo (@lmurillom), and Nicholas Garofalo (@eidolonnight). We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from them and other previous team reps, and to build on their successes as we move forward. We will be coordinating with them to ensure a smooth handoff and to make sure that we are able to hit the ground running.
We are looking forward to what the future holds for WordPress and the Make WordPress Marketing Team. We hope that you will join us at the meeting on 17 January to be a part of it!

After discussions with the team and team reps, we’ve decided to move into 2023 with 3 team reps again. There were some who preferred we limit ourselves to 2, but based on this past year, even with 3 team reps, we often had weeks where only one of us was available to organize the weekly meeting. We’re still a growing team and more team reps increases the touch-points for new contributors.
With three team rep positions available, from those nominated, we have three contributors who have confirmed they will stand for 2023. For 2023 team reps will be @robinwpdeveloper @santanainniss and @sereedmedia Congratulations and welcome! A post will follow later in the week.

@sereedmedia has started a discussion in MetaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress. (relevant to Marketing as well) about coordinating feature launches with scheduled P2P2 P2 or O2 is the term people use to refer to the Make WordPress blog. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ showed great performances this week. And with our key performance metrics of net-new followers, we had one of the strongest weeks in a few weeks. Mostly the performance of Twitter has finally improved and we are seeing momentum again, leading us to have many new followers on the platform. We gained another 1,383 followers this week and we are seeing that performance steadily climb again. Our strongest campaigns of the week included the WP 6.1 which helped us discuss features and drove conversations online with our audience. This campaign and others continued to drive our audience and provided us with our top posts/campaigns of the week.”

Our WordPress Social Media Amplification (GitHub ticket #7) details how you can help share and amplify WordPress news on social media. You will also find a list of the primary WordPress.org social accounts and campaign contacts if you would like to help craft content.
In case you missed it, both State of the Word 2022 and the community survey are important to share with your social platforms if you have time this week.
We also have a couple open conversations for folks, even new contributors, to get involved in. These are a couple things we hope to take action on in 2023.
Update from @bjmcsherry: WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ kept up its strong momentum into December with another strong performance for our social campaigns. Additionally, while Twitter has been a bit turbulent of late under new ownership, we have seen performances begin to stabilize on that network as well. We gained another 1,102 followers this week, which is up drastically over previous weeks since the Twitter purchase. Our coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. metrics rose across the board with a solid stream of content that engaged our audience quite a bit. In fact, we improved on every single measurement of engagement that is important to us. Our strongest campaigns of the week included the People of WordPress and WP 6.1 campaigns which helped us discuss features and drove conversations online with our audience. These campaigns and others continued to drive our audience and provided us with our top posts/campaigns of the week.

People of WordPress: please read and share the latest People of WordPress article! The WordPresser featured is Huanyi (Eric) Chuang, a front end developer from Taiwan, who helps connect local groups to WordPress and the worldwide open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. community. He is part of the team helping to make the first WordCamp Asia a success in 2023.
For the December 2022 (GitHub card #133) edition: Pictures and further information awaited to complete. Research for January 2023 has been started and will run in parallel as a backup. If you would like to help, please add to the GitHub card.
2022 WordPress Survey: Each year, members of the WordPress community provide valuable feedback through an annual survey, which is open now. Please answer it and share your experience! You may also take it in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish.

Opportunity: You can volunteer to be on the rota/ roster by adding your name and the week to the notes planning card #138. There are some slots available in December.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered for November and some dates in December. There are still opportunities to volunteer. You can find the rota at this GitHub card #138. The meeting on 28 December 2022 will not take place.
The team is looking for contributors to open the virtual coffee shop in the bi-weekly coffee break. Facilitating is easy, and we even have an updated guide to help. Check out the GitHub card #23 and add your name to the list if you’re interested.
The team is also exploring restarting an alternate timezone coffee break to enable more people from different time zones to participate. This could be alternating between an early and a late UTC coffee break. We use UTC as WordPress.org is a global open-source project. You can add comments and if you would be interested in an early UTC coffee break to the discussion on GitHub card #137.
The alternatives times suggested so far and in previous discussions are alternating between 09:00 UTC and 18:30 UTC. Another time suggested was alternating three time cycles, 09:00 UTC (or earlier), 14:30 UTC and 18:30 UTC. @santanainniss offered to host a coffee hour on December 1st at 11:00AM UTC.
@jpantani also offered to experiment a future iteration of Coffee time. Suggesting to host one that’s friendly to the western part of the Americas and Eastern regions of APAC, at 00:00 UTC (4pm Pacific.)

6 December 2022, 09:00 UTC: close nominations and confirm with those who have been nominated, if they wish to be considered for 2023 before making an announcement on election nominees or results if no election is needed.
Share a list of nominations in the Slack and update this post. A link to how to vote, if needed, will be shared during the global Marketing Team meeting. This will give anyone unable to attend an opportunity to vote after the meeting.
14 December 2022, 09:00 UTC: if an election is needed, this will run until this date and time. Results will be announced in the team meeting on 14 December at 15:00 UTC.
Team social, date tbc: invite all the previous and 2023 team reps to a social and thank you on behalf of the team and community. Previous year team reps will also be invited to this. The event will be a creative doodle and sharing of favorite places session, suggested from the year’s social questions.
1 January 2023: New reps will start their role for the year at the beginning of 2023.

WordPress.org had a very strong week over the past week with our social campaigns. Our coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. metrics rose across the board with a solid stream of content that engaged our audience quite a bit. Our strongest campaigns of the week continue to be focused on the features and benefits of WordPress 6.1 release plus a news post about the 6.1.1 maintenance update. It was that continued discussion with our audience that provided us with the top three posts/campaigns of the week.

Last week was the WordPress 6.1.1 Maintenance Release. @dansoschin added that other than the 6.1.1 update, there’s general work happening and planning for upcoming releases.
Polyglots Outreach Effort: The first post in the Polyglots outreach program has been published, which includes a call for volunteers to help reach out to a series of locale teams. Check if your locale was mentioned! If you want to help promoting this initiative, check GitHub card #139.

@nalininonstopnewsuk suggested having 10 minutes at a future meeting dedicated to encouraging people with pictures they may take at any end-of-year holidays.

– to search for audio files to use or remix in their content, videos, podcasts, or other creative projects, all available for free use under Creative Commons licenses.
In fact, they can search not only for audio, but also for openly-licensed images.
