Notes: Global Marketing Team Meeting – 14 October 2020

(updating notes to help with accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility))

Introduction

These summary notes focus on key items and actions from the meeting and to assist with an asynchronous contribution to the Global Marketing Team. For those unable to attend a meeting due to timezone issues, please do join the discussion threads and tasks on Trello after the meeting and send your updates.

Meeting Notes

Each week we have a contributor who has been with us for a while draft notes supported by one of the working groups. This is then worked on further by the wider group by Saturday morning and used to plan follow-ups, report back to linked teams, give feedback, and plan actions by the Monday 11:00 UTC meeting.

We now have a rota of volunteers to help with this initial draft. We are increasingly writing our updates for team meetings in such a way that they make it easier to be used in our new system of notes and actions and simply copied to the draft notes.

A big thanks to @YashwardhanRana and @lmurillom for doing these.

How can I help?

You can volunteer to be a note-taker for one of the future meetings. We currently have a rota. Please note that the initial draft is needed by the end of Friday each week.

Collaboration

Learn WordPress platform promotion

Led by: @webcommsat

Attendees: @webcommsat, @MegPhillips91, @OGlekler, @lmurillom, @meher, @nalininonstopnewsuk, @yvettesonneveld, @chaion07, @YashwardhanRana, @tarif2100, @swetabhsuman8, @ugyensupport, @mikerbg

The attendees devoted the first 45 minutes to a collaboration on the Learn WordPress platform. A working group has been liaising with the Community and Training teams for a few weeks and held some marketing and communications sessions.

  • The attendees collaborated on the Learn WordPress social monitoring document – link in Slack
  • There was work to refine CTAs, and work with the Training team on how to clarify wording, and how to recruit contributors to help with screenshots.
  • There was discussion on what someone who wants to make a workshop needs to know. It needs to have learning objectives, comply with GPLGPL GPL is an acronym for GNU Public License. It is the standard license WordPress uses for Open Source licensing https://wordpress.org/about/license/. The GPL is a ‘copyleft’ license https://www.gnu.org/licenses/copyleft.en.html. This means that derivative work can only be distributed under the same license terms. This is in distinction to permissive free software licenses, of which the BSD license and the MIT License are widely used examples. and be of broad interest.
  • We want to highlight that submissions do not have to be just in English and we want to encourage people from non-English locales to submit.
  • The objective of the social content the team worked on is to raise awareness of the Learn platform, its resources, and the distinction between workshops and lesson plans. Additionally, increase the number of non-English workshops, screenshot recruitments, and get to agreed wording for workshops so we can produce an FAQ for the full launch.
  • @courane01 from the training team helped us go over what exactly is needed to help with screenshots.
