Notes: Global Marketing Team meeting, December 14, 2022

1. Welcome and introduction

  • The meeting discussions on the Marketing team channel on Slack start with this message in the Make WordPress Slack. You can add to the threads if you were unable to attend the meeting live or for its full duration. If an update relates to a task, please also update the relevant GitHub card on the GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/ tasks board. This is the main project tracking area for the team.

@nalininonstopnewsuk shared this week’s question. These questions are a great way to get to know others in the team. Do add your reply even if you could not attend the meeting. The different transport modes may also make fun photographs for WPPhotos.
Question: What is your favorite mode of transport? Walking, cycling, running, cars, boat, rickshaw or anything else?
You can read replies in this Slack thread. It is a good way to start getting to know some of the other contributors in the team if you are new to it.

We have a discussion to continue our efforts to make the note taking easier to do. The team is looking for contributors to open the virtual coffee shop in the bi-weekly coffee break. Check out GitHub card #23 and add your name to the list if you’re interested. We even have a complete guide for facilitators to help.

5b. Updates on WordPress.org social media accounts and how you can help

Our WordPress Social Media Amplification (GitHub ticket #7) details how you can help share and amplify WordPress news on social media. You will also find a list of the primary WordPress.org social accounts and campaign contacts if you would like to help craft content.

In case you missed it, the community survey is important to share with your social platforms if you have time this week.

We also have a couple open conversations for folks, even new contributors, to get involved in. These are a couple things we hope to take action on in 2023.

Update from @bjmcsherry: “WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ showed great performances this week. And with our key performance metrics of net-new followers, we had one of the strongest weeks in a few weeks. Mostly the performance of Twitter has finally improved and we are seeing momentum again, leading us to have many new followers on the platform. We gained another 1,383 followers this week and we are seeing that performance steadily climb again. Our strongest campaigns of the week included the WP 6.1 which helped us discuss features and drove conversations online with our audience. This campaign and others continued to drive our audience and provided us with our top posts/campaigns of the week.”

  • Are you aware of any other WordCamp or WordPress MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. 5d. Newsletters and series

2022 WordPress Survey: Each year, members of the WordPress community provide valuable feedback through an annual survey, which is open now. Please answer it and share your experience! You may also take it in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish.

This month’s Polyglots newsletter should go out on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. @evarlese is hoping to share the drafts by Wednesday, December 14 on the GitHub card #149. If you’re able to help review and share any feedback on those drafts, please go to the drafts and leave your suggestions.

People of WordPress December 2022 (GitHub card #133). @nalininonstopnewsuk shared pictures and further information awaited to complete the postponed feature provisionally set for December. The December schedule in previous years has been an optional slot if needed due to the difficulties of contributors availability at the end of the year. Research for January 2023 has been started and efforts will run in parallel. If you would like to help, please add to the GitHub card.

The Month in WordPress: @rmartinezduque shared the next edition will be published next week. Anyone can help by collecting any news or Make team updates that would be valuable and relevant to the post by the end of this week, such as announcements from Make WordPress teams, major updates from flagship WordCamps (WordCamp US, WordCamp Asia, and WordCamp Europe), or testing and feedback calls. 6. Diary dates – upcoming events and meetings

This bi-weekly social coffee break is held by the Make Marketing team for all WordPress Marketing contributors, and occasional guests. Stop by and meet some of the friendly faces marketing WordPress.

7. Open floor

  • Suggest Topics for the 2023 WordPress Community Summit – request for all Contributor Teams to suggest Community Summit topics by January 16, 2023.
  • @eidolonnight shared requests for updates to the design and functionality of make.WordPress.org. “I know some people have had accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility) issues with comments. The blogs aren’t particularly readable. It’d be great to more easily navigate between teams. I think there’s a lot of room for improvement.”
  • WPPhotos: During the past few weeks, the Photos team has shared some social posts to encourage photo contributions about holidays, traditions, and celebrations around this time of year. You can help spread the word by liking, sharing, etc. Links to social posts can be found on this GitHub card (#80).
  • Discussion on adding custom emojis for teams that do not have one uploaded as yet on Slack. If you happen to know where the images created previously for all teams are located, please share. Note, some emojis have dual roles and usage. Some teams use a emoji that is also represent wider aspects, eg Community Team emoji also used for the wider WordPress community. Slack thread. A GitHub card #150 has been set up to continue ideas and find images.
