Notes: Global Marketing Team meeting, November 16, 2022

1. Welcome and introduction

These summary notes focus on key items and actions from the meeting and assist with asynchronous contribution to the Global Marketing Team. For those unable to attend a meeting due to time zone issues, please do join the discussion threads after the meeting and send your updates.

  • For those new to the team, the New Contributor Orientation section of the Handbook can be a good place to start. You can also visit the team’s GitHub task board and join any card you are interested in. All you need is a GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. account, and then you can add a comment to the relevant card.

2. Getting to know each other

  • Meeting attendees: participants can be viewed in this Slack thread. We welcome people from across all time zones to participate.
  •  In this part of the agenda we focus on team building. It is open to existing team members, new contributors and people from other teams that come to marketing regularly.

3. Volunteer to be a notetaker or a coffee break facilitator

a) Notes

Thank you to our notetaking volunteers for the next few weeks. How to information for the team’s notes are available in the Marketing Team Handbook.

If you have suggestions for the agendas for these meetings or have an update you can give asynchronously, you can also add them to the card for the relevant week. There are contributors available to help anyone get started with the team GitHub, message in the main Marketing slack channel and include @nalininonstopnewsuk in your message.

b) Help to facilitate a coffee break?

We are looking for contributors to open the virtual coffee break for the bi-weekly coffee break.

Check out the GitHub card #23 and add your name to the list! Read the updated guide on facilitating a coffee break and volunteer. More on the next coffee break in the diary dates section of the meeting.

The team is exploring restarting a coffee break to enable more people from different time zones to participate. This could be alternating between an early and a late UTC coffee break. We use UTC as is a global open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. project. You can add comments and if you would be interested in an early UTC coffee break to the discussion on GitHub card #137.

4. Marketing project and task updates

i) Team RepTeam Rep A Team Rep is a person who represents the Make WordPress team to the rest of the project, make sure issues are raised and addressed as needed, and coordinates cross-team efforts. nominations

The timetable was discussed and opportunity for further views to be expressed, in addition to the GitHub card where progress and discussion has been taking place. This GitHub card has also been highlighted since October to encourage interest in the process and nominations. Some changes were made to allow for the Thanksgiving holidays in the US.

The dates:

  • By 16 November 2022: publish post on the Marketing blog and highlight in the team meeting at 15:00 UTC.
  • 6 December 2022, 09:00 UTC: close nominations and confirm with those who have been nominated, if they wish to be considered for 2023 before making an announcement on election nominees or results if no election is needed. Share a list of nominations in the Slack and update this post. A link to how to vote, if needed, will be shared during the global Marketing Team meeting. This will give anyone unable to attend an opportunity to vote after the meeting.
  • 14 December 2022, 09:00 UTC: if an election is needed, this will run until this date and time. Results will be announced in the team meeting on 14 December at 15:00 UTC.

The post for 2023 team rep nominations and the timetable was published after the meeting

The team was also asked for input on the date for a social event at the beginning of the new year.
@nalininonstopnewsuk said the plan was to include items that have been suggested from the weekly social question.
Action: If you can share whether you are likely to be back by the first week or January 2023 or prefer a social in the second week, we can try and find a date and time that will work.

iii) Discussion on Marketing Team description

The main Marketing Team task board is available in GitHubThank you to everyone who has been helping progress and update cards.

We have a couple of older cards that need finishing. We will share those in the thread to help complete them. Please let the team reps know in this channel if you need help. There are lots of members of the team who can answer questions and help. Do not worry about asking for assistance. We are a team!

Update from @bjmcsherry: “ had another strong week relative to other weeks in a non-release window. While numbers and engagement are down from last week, that is more of a reflection of the continued excitement from the 6.1 release. Our strongest campaigns of the week however did continue to be focused on features/benefits of the 6.1 release as users are still talking about this online. It was that continued discussion with our audience that provided us with our top 3 posts/campaigns of the week.”

4b. Updates on forthcoming WordPress releases and FSE

Starting a Polyglots Outreach Effort: @evarlese is starting a Polyglots outreach program, which will include monthly posts with a call for volunteers to help reach out to a series of locale teams. Our next Coffee break will be tomorrow, Thursday, 17 November 2022, at 18:30/ 6.30pm UTC and will be facilitated by @jpantani.

This bi-weekly social coffee break is held by the Make Marketing team for all WordPress Marketing contributors, and occasional guests. Stop by and meet some of the friendly faces marketing WordPress.
