Start of June 22, 2022 meeting in the #marketing channel of the Make WordPress Slack.

1. Welcome and introduction

These summary notes focus on key items and actions from the meeting and assist with an asynchronous contribution to the WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ Global Marketing Team. For those unable to attend a meeting due to timezone issues please do join the discussion threads after the meeting and send your updates. 

2. Getting to know the team and help to take part

  1. Meeting attendees: participants and those new or rejoining the channel this last week can be viewed in this Slack Thread
  2. Social question of the week. This month, there are some themed celebration days highlighting the variety of fruit and vegetables and their goodness. Do you have a recipe which combines together the goodness of both? – View participants’ responses via this Slack thread.

3. Notes, volunteers and coffee break facilitators

Thanks to @ugyensupport for last week’s notes. Each week the meetings have a GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/ card where you can add suggestions for the agenda and add a link to a task card where you are adding any asynchronous updates if you are unable to attend the meeting live.

4. Marketing project and task updates

The main Marketing Team task board is available on GitHub. This is where we log Marketing Team and cross-team activities. Anyone can comment on a card, you just need a GitHub account.

4a. Forthcoming WordPress releases and FSE

@eidolonnight: We continue to support efforts to share the latest 6.0 release and new features across social media. Look for posts with the ‘#WordPress’ tag highlighting the release and new features, like this recent Twitter post.

No date yet on 6.1, but that will not be for a few months

  • 6.0 release content (organized by Lauren) continues to perform quite well. So even a few weeks out from the official release, we continue to see strong interest
  • asked for contributors in this and other teams/channels to retweet/share those posts to help spread the word and amplify the release. It introduces some wonderful content/editor/publishing tools, as well as improvements in performance, accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). We have an open discussion about sharing WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. updates on social media over on Discussion: Promoting WordCamps with the official WordPress social accounts. Please comment on that post with your thoughts, especially if you have helped organize WordCamps in the past. 

@nalininonstopnewsuk suggested contributors could also promote the discussion with WordCamps in their area? @eidolonnight agreed this was a good idea.

4d. Social media status

GitHub issue detailing how you can help share and amplify WordPress news on social media. It has a list of the primary WordPress social accounts.

@bjmcsherry: last week’s social media stats and insights.

  • overall, we continue seeing strong results from the WP6.0 release on social media for .Org
  • some excellent performances, but the biggest performances again came from our WP6.0 and photo Directory campaigns
  • extremely high engagement and dialogue again with our followers
  • earned just under 1,000 new followers (932), for a total of 2,043,026, across all of our channels, with many campaigns scoring high marks in some of our best examples throughout the week
  • Overall, the numbers for the week look like this:
    • Impressions: 1,054,754
    • Engagements: 4,790
    • Link clicks: 887
    • Messages received: 25
  • @dansoschin: suggested to follow the #announcements channel to find all the WordPress tweets to share and like.

5. Diary dates – upcoming events and meetings

  • Next Coffee break will be Thursday 30 June 2022 at 18:30/ 6.30pm UTC, and needs a facilitator. This bi-weekly social coffee break is held by the Make Marketing team for all WordPress Marketing contributors, and occasional guests from other teams. Stop by and meet some of the friendly faces marketing WordPress.
