1. Welcome and introduction

These summary notes focus on key items and actions from the meeting and assist with an asynchronous contribution to the Global Marketing Team. For those unable to attend a meeting due to timezone issues please do join the discussion threads after the meeting and send your updates.

Notetakers for coming weeks – you can join our group of contributors taking part in producing notes by volunteering when you see a call for note-takers during our meetings or adding your name to the weekly GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/ card.

  • Thank you to the contributors who are working on fixes / feedback on GitHub betaBeta A pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. features we use and liaising with other teams on this.
  • If you would like specific assistance on using GitHub, please reply in this thread. We have contributors who have been providing small group and one to one support on this.
  • You can get involved with the next meeting planning on this GitHub card for the meeting on May 4 2022. This is now one combined location for preparation, links for the weekly meeting and items for that week.

4c) Forthcoming WordPress Releases and FSE

WordPress 6.0 is the next major releaseMajor Release A set of releases or versions having the same major version number may be collectively referred to as “X.Y” -- for example version 5.2.x to refer to versions 5.2, 5.2.1, and all other versions in the 5.2. (five dot two dot) branch of that software. Major Releases often are the introduction of new major features and functionality. and is expected on May 24, 2022

  • WordPress 6.0 Beta 3 was released and the next release will be RC1 on May 3, 2022. Lots of people coming to test including from marketing. For further details on upcoming WordPress 6.0 releases please visit WordPress 6.0 Development Cycle.
  • @dansoschin: The About Page which is part of the release package, will be more-or-less finalized in copy form and design form at the end of this week. Here is the working draft note – WordPress 6.0 About Page. The purpose of this file, as currently established, is to provide a brief update of what’s in the release and provide links to resources where you can find more information.
  • Status of Webfonts API for WordPress 6.0 Inclusion planned in the 6.0 release.
  • Test WordPress 6.0: @webcommsat is collecting information to share with documentation, training, and coreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. on what extra information / steps would be useful for non-devs to take part in this kind of testing. Please share any feedback you have on the existing testing information and what info/ screenshots would be helpful with her (Slack: abhanonstopnewsuk) and @marybaum
  • @webcommsat: There is a lot of cross-team work going on for 6.0, including relating to documentation. If you are interested in writing end user documentation and Learn WP materials, please get in touch. There is joint working going on in this area and you are welcome to get involved.

  • Month in WordPress newsletter – @rmartinezduque will share an update later in the week. The next edition of Month in WordPress aims to be published next Thursday May 5, 2022. If anyone has any Make Team updates they would like to see featured regarding Month in WordPress, please feel free to add them to this GitHub card or share them in the Make Marketing Slack channel and pingPing The act of sending a very small amount of data to an end point. Ping is used in computer science to illicit a response from a target server to test it’s connection. Ping is also a term used by Slack users to @ someone or send them a direct message (DM). Users might say something along the lines of “Ping me when the meeting starts.” @rmartinezduque for awareness by Tuesday May 3 2022. The draft will be added to the GitHub card and shared on this channel prior to publication.

Meetups and WordCamps looking for speakers can share in the diversity-speaker-support channel on the Making WordPress Slack the kind of topics being requested and dates, if available. The channel is to support a diverse roster of speakers at official WordPress events (meetups and WordCamps)

  • @rmartinezduque wanted to share a few updates regarding the promotion of the new Pinterest and Wolfram embeds in 5.9.
    • The HelpHub article on the new Pinterest embed blockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. is now published.
    • Today and in the coming weeks we will be sharing a few posts about the Pinterest embeds in WordPress’ social platforms. Liking and sharing them will be a great way to help spread the word!
    • The HelpHub article on the Wolfram embed is on track but has not been published yet.
