1. Welcome, Introduction

These summary notes focus on key items and actions from the meeting and assist with an asynchronous contribution to the Global Marketing Team. For those unable to attend a meeting due to timezone issues please do join the discussion threads after the meeting and send your updates.

4a) Walkthrough of the next major WordPress release 6.0

  • @dansoschin is writing a recap post on the Make WordPress CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. blog.

  • Month in WordPress has been published. Thanks to everyone who gave their input for this edition.
  • Update from @jpantani: the #GrowYourStory campaign has been launched! Let’s help these efforts by sharing this post across social media, and follow the hashtag across all social channels. He confirmed this was the way for marketing members to contribute at the moment.
  • We are excited to share the latest People of WordPress, profiling product manager and web developer @juanfra. Thank you to all the contributors involved in this piece during the last year or so (you can see their names at the end of the story) and to Juan. 
  • The April edition is being worked on
  • Props to @webcommsat and @cbringmann who both spend a lot of time on the People of WordPress series together.
  • There is an ongoing call for topic ideas for WP Briefing podcast. Add your ideas to the discussion on GitHub or reply in the Slack thread and tag @santanainniss

  • Thanks to @bjmcsherry for updating StatsPerformance: Our audience across all networks grew by 628 followers last week. That brings our total audience to 2,036,078 followers.

4d) GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. Updates and Links

  • If any of our new or existing contributors have specific help requests which are not currently logged on the spreadsheet, please do add them and your GitHub ID so someone can try and help you.
  • @webcommsat updated on:
    • have updated all the About descriptions for the old repos that have been migrated, so anyone viewing the Repos under WordPress can see that these are older versions and where to go for the current repo. Once a final check is done on migrationMigration Moving the code, database and media files for a website site from one server to another. Most typically done when changing hosting companies. for those old repos, they will be archived by @vimes1984 and @meher
    • answered the questions on GitHub with the examples posted in the Month in WordPress macro card. She suggests these are added to the wiki with the other information to help users.

  • Coffee break on Thursday 7 April 2022 at 18:30/ 6.30pm UTC will be facilitated by @megphillips91. This bi-weekly social hour is held by the Make Marketing team for all WordPress Marketing contributors, and occasional guests. Stop by and meet some of the friendly faces marketing WordPress.
  • Check out the Google Calendar with meetings, collaborations, and social activities
    • If you are using Microsoft Outlook, follow this guide to embed Team’s Calendar on your own.
    • If you have difficulties or a need to embed our calendar into other tools, please share this and we will try to help.

  • @rmartinezduque is helping to promote and coordinate the efforts for the Photo Directory campaigns on social. You can learn more about the current campaigns in this previous update and link. They are exploring the idea of sharing stories behind some of the contributed photos to raise awareness about the project. If you have contributed any photos to the directory and would like to share a brief story about it for social media, please feel feel to reach out to @rmartinezduque!
