4a. The Month in WordPress

View the thread at this Slack link.

Month in WordPress is out! It covers the 6.0 release date, Team Updates, and more. Please read and share.

4b. Social Media Update

View the thread via this Slack link.

  • Active campaigns
  • We again saw a slower week with the pause on social media during the majority of the previous week as we continued to focus on listening to the people and the major current conflicts occurring in Ukraine rather than promoting content. We did see slight activity with WordPress News and auto-posted content along with near the end of the week (Friday) where we published the WP Briefing Podcast.

4c. GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/ Updates

  • The People of WordPress and Showcase series should move to the WordPress organization this week (depending on wider issues). This means the cards will be able to be linked on the main board, with a tag so they can be searched for the relevant series.
  • Particular questions on SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. related to how to use some of the buttons, to use the search, and when to click on and also send to. Does anyone have a good guide to using Slack, we can add a list to the wiki to support new contributors?

4d. Open Call for Make Marketing Table at WCEU

View the thread via this Slack link.

  • Last week we highlighted the open call to lead the Make Marketing contributor table at WordCamp Europe. @webcommsat has shared recommendations based on her experience in past years (thread). @jpantani will confirm soon whether he will have time to help with this. Will anyone else be available?
  • @webcommsat shared the most urgent information the team needs to share with WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Europe:
    • how many people the team estimates would be there on the day for a dedicated Marketing contributors table during WordCamp Europe, and how many tables might be needed.
    • would we be able to provide volunteers to help on the day with marketing tasks and with anyone needing additional assistance after a Slack introduction?
    • what areas can we focus on?
  • It is expected there will be a staffed booth to help attendees learn how to get more involved in contributing to any team. @dansoschin is wrangling/organizing that booth as an organizer for WCEU, though he will not be in attendance. That booth will be present during the main two days of the event.
  • @anjanavasan will share information on Registration Desks and a Getting Started desk.
  • If you will be attending WCEU 2022, please reply in the thread. Also, please chime in with topics/activities you think could be covered/discussed/performed during Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/..
    • @dansoschin suggests hosting a discussion on what additional materials (written guides, checklists, graphics, videos) could be added to our download area to help web developers and content creators when “pitching” migrating to WordPress to their CIOs/CTOs in mid/large enterprises.

4e. Session with Training to Prepare for the 6.0 Release

View the thread via this Slack link.

  • Last week, the training team expressed that they would like to continue exploring how Training/Docs/Marketing prepare for WP 6.0 release, and perhaps hold a session with the different teams.
  • The idea of a session to help contributors from different teams was part of the recommendations from 5.7 and 5.8, and for 6.0. There is also a new step in the release process: a walkthrough of new features slated for the release. There are also plans for closer working between the different teams, more to come on this.
  • If you are interested in participating in an orientation session, please reply in the thread.
  • @courane01 will return a date soon for this session, and considers that somewhere between feature freeze and walkthrough would be a good time for the orientation event.

4f. People of WordPress

@anjanavasan shared the MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. Organizer Newsletter draft. Additions were requested by 10pm UTC on 10 March 2022.

Collaboration

People of WordPress – focused on images. View the conversation via this Slack link.

  • Additional regular contributors needed to assist two of the existing contributors who have been finalizing images.
  • More advance follow up for obtaining images which are in the resolution, clarity and have permissions for use, and discussing with HeroPress ways which could potentially improve the images they have and the workflow on images to People of WordPress.
  • @MegPhillips91 has offered to create a template which photo editors could use to make sure resolution and size is sufficient. Discussion on whether it would be possible for a template to be created in software other than Photoshop or another paid for product, but one that did not leave a watermark as this has created issues for photo and video editing in the past.
  • @rmartinezduque, @femkreations, @marybaum have also volunteered to help on the task as time allows.
