2. Meeting Notes

A big thanks to @oglekler and others for contributing to drafting, follow ups and actions from last week’s meeting notes.

Note: Please review and add comments in suggestion mode. These notes will be updated as appropriate.

A reminder to check the draft notes is circulated at the meeting every week. Please review and check your ID is listed on collaborations that you have actively contributed too. We rely on this to update the final notes and to put into our charts to show where we need extra contributors, and how we are having an input and impact onto the work assigned/requested from other teams.

Rota for drafting notes:

You can volunteer to contribute to notes for future meetings, please contact @lmurillom and @meher. Please note that the initial draft is needed by Friday 17.00 UTC each week to help with actions and follow-ups that might be needed. We are excited to continue to expand our contributors who are helping draft the notes!

3. Tasks, Working Groups, and Team Celebration

WordPress 5.8 release

Update from: @chanthaboune

“There have been no reports of big problems in the forum, so it seems like it was a great release and well handled, thanks to everyone!”

Josepha confirmed for the social media and marcomms that WordPress can still be referred to as a ‘Content Management System / CMS’, we do not use the term ‘website builder’

Update from: @webcommsat

WordPress Portsmouth is featuring WordPress 5.8 at its meeting and helping test some of the marcomms we have been working on together. Thanks to @bobbingwide and others for helping us look at marketing items for meetups.

4. Collaborations

Summary of collaborations, thanks to @lmurillom

During this meeting’s collaboration, we worked on three tasks and had a call to answer team members’ questions. We discussed how team members who can’t access Google assets can best work with images, accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (; good practices regarding duplicate content; featured images for social; the possibility of story-based social media opportunities and more. Thanks to @webcommsat and @nalininonstopnewsuk for the preparation of collaboration tasks for live during the meeting, async by contributors in other timezones, and by other teams. Thanks too to the project and actions team for providing support during the live and async contribution time.

  1. Collate notable features of WordPress 5.8 release
    1. Do you have a favorite feature on WordPress 5.8? We are collating them (document in Slack) so they can be reviewed with Josepha and others for potential use in social or meetup resources/ communications.
    2. This is an easy task to join for anyone who has just started using WordPress or who can share favorite features which their clients and others are finding useful. You can also take part in the web research and list features that people are enjoying using – at the bottom of the document, you can suggest the feature and the reasons why people are saying they like it.
    3. Priority can be given to posts on the Block-based Widgets Editor in WordPress 5.8 and the Pattern Directory.
  2. Add links to social posts
    1. Add links to the social posts. Some can point to the news pages, others to the field guide, Help Hub information etc. If you are familiar with the release or documentation, this might be an area which you can help us with.
  3. WordPress 5.8 release media monitoring
    1. Find and add links about the release in major blogs and social media.
    2. For new contributors and those who may be less familiar with 5.8, this is a great way of being involved.
