  • WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. India is a 3-weekend event that started Jan 30-31, 2021 and will continue this coming weekend on Feb 6-7 and then on Feb 13-14.
  • The team has been busy preparing for WordCamp India contributor days, which are this weekend (Feb 6-7 2021). Thanks to everyone involved.  If you have not already volunteered to be involved on the Marketing table, then please let us know or include @nalininonstopnewsuk in your message on the channel. We will also be working with other teams on particular tasks, including Training, Polyglots and Community. For more details please read this post.
  • We will be working on #LearnWP marketing at the WordCamp India Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/.. Please reach out to @meher and @webcommsat if you would like to be involved in this. We are excited to be continuing our collaboration with Training on this.
  • The Marketing Team has made suggestions on the About Page copy for WordPress 5.7, with @webcommsat, @marybaum and @yvettesonneveld coordinating the input.
  • The new WP Briefing podcast run by Josepha has launched. It is great to have this. She highlighted the work of the teams for Learn WordPress, and for which marketing has been involved for about seven months and continues to work closely with Training, Polyglots, CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress. and Community. We have also identified some potential ways the software can be used for the longer term in supporting marketing around polyglots, Learn WordPress, and more.
  • This Thursday 4 February 2021, at 20:00 (8pm) UTC, we will be having a session exploring keywords in the Marketing monthly MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area.. This includes opportunities to continue our work on Learn WordPress, Releases and some of our other campaigns. We held had one earlier session during the marketing meeting on this to enable. A zoom link will be shared in the Marketing Slack. If anyone needs captioning, please let @meher or @nalininonstopnewsuk know by Thursday 10:00 UTC, and we will use an appropriate platform.  [Update – thanks to all who attended on Zoom, audio or in Google Docs]
  • The first Thursday coffee break of every month is devoted to a marketing and communications topic. If you have an expertise in a particular aspect of theory or practice, and would be interested in sharing your knowledge, please let @webcommsat and @lmurillom know.
  • @MegPhillips91, @webcommsat and others continue working on a BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. 4. Collaborations and Planning

Monthly Promotions on the Team

WordPress campaign to encourage those who have pledged to support the marketing team

Task:  We have more than 700 pledges to the Marketing team, but have a much lower number of active contributors. We want to reach pledgers and encourage them to become more involved.

Collaboration document in this link.

We explored  answers to the questions:

  • If you were searching for opportunities to collaborate/contribute to the WordPress Marketing Team, what keywords would you search for on the Make WordPress blog and on search engines?
  • How can we encourage pledgers and new contributors, in general, to think towards medium and long term collaboration?
  • What do we understand as pledging to give time to Marketing? This will help us explain this more to those who have pledged or are considering doing so?

We had some great ideas and discussions.

Actions:

  • We have added some additional questions so please do continue to collaborate in the document.
  • Task meeting will take place on Tuesday 9 February 2021, 15:00 to 16:00 UTC. All those who have volunteered and any additional contributors are welcome. Please let us know if you will be coming in the Marketing Slack. We will be using Zoom or Google Hangouts and Google Doc.
