WordPress 5.6 Release RC1

➤ How can I help? 

  • PRIORITY: draft social media posts to promote the 5.6 release using the information shared on the About Page and the most recent post from the release squads. The Collaboration section earlier in this meeting has the document you can add to until Friday 5pm UTC.
  • Draft social media posts to promote devchat two times 5am and 8pm UTC with the information we have from @thewebprincess.

WordPress.tv Videos

Update from coordinating team members: @webcommsat

Abha attended the WordPress.tv meeting to discuss updates and next steps for joint tasks. If anyone who is also a member of both teams would like to support this co-ordination, please make contact in the Marketing channel on Slack.

Lighting and video set up tips guidance document 

  • The document has been through all its approval and additions. It will be posted on the blog, cross-posted to Marketing and other teams and added to the WPTV Handbook after the next WordPress Release.

Synchronizing audio and video when recording from home tips

Testing of the subtitling auto approach from Pascal

  • @OGlekler is collating the feedback/ further queries for Pascal and WPTV 
  • Pascal will lead a video session to answer further queries next month

Progress on the priority marketing videos on WPTV for subtitling

  • These videos promote WordPress community and how to videos
  • These are being re-reviewed to identify any crossover opportunities with Learn WordPress and Training
  • This links with our new year campaign on subtitling

Additional materials for subtitling for the WordPress.tv handbook

  • We continue to work with @rahuldsarker on updating this and revamping it to better use materials from @hanopcan and others, as well as the new tools that are being developed to improve subtitling.

WordPress Translation Marketing 

Update from co-ordinating team members: @webcommsat and @nalininonstopnewsuk

  • Blog and/or video interviews of polyglots contributors will be taking place in December 2020
  • With @nao and others in the polyglots channel, we are continuing to work on the questions and answers from would-be translators and new contributors, and the personas. We are also talking with @tacoverdo on the personas task
  • Help the polyglots promote the translator research form which is open until 8 December 2020. We are promoting it through multiple channels
  • We are exploring dates for translation mini-events to be held in 2021 and the large-scale polyglot involvement in WCEU

Learn WordPress

Update from coordinating team members: @webcommsat and @meher

The group has been working with @hlashbrooke, @courane01 and @azhiyadev

A tremendous amount of work from all those contributors who have been involved with supporting both the Learn WordPress working group in Community, the Training Team and the Marketing Team. From working on launch preparation and recruiting help to complete tasks, to drafting and reviewing social media, to writing blog posts.

How can I help? 

  • Transferring the finalized social media posts to the pack and creating a version for GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/

New & returning contributors sessions

A dedicated post with the registration form is now available.

We are starting a series of onboarding sessions for new contributors called ‘Contributing Made Fun & Easy’. Join us and discover how to best contribute your talents, get to know the tools we use, and adopt good practices for working remotely and asynchronously. 

At present, this is going to be a four-part series that will take place on a biweekly schedule.

The first session will take place on Tuesday 19 January 2021, at 11:00 UTC.

These training sessions are aimed to help both newcomers and those who would like to get a refresher to get on board with the team and the tasks that are underway. 

The initial session starts off with basics covering details about: 

  • The WordPress project
  • Its Code of Conduct 
  • Getting to know each other
  • How marketing team works and its tasks
  • Setting up your WordPress profile
