Notes: Global Marketing Team Meeting 20 May 2020

(updated links for accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). TrelloTrello Project management system using the concepts of boards and cards to organize tasks in a sane way. This is what the make.wordpress.com/marketing team uses for example: https://trello.com/b/8UGHVBu8/wp-marketing. card: https://trello.com/c/1KagUPpT

  • Google Docs: we still need a section on using Docs on mobile, and a short section on using Sheets.
  • chaion07 has submitted the first version of screen video and screenshots on basics of using Google Sheets and Google Docs collaboratively, and will share a subtitled version.
  • Onboarding videos:
Russian video: well done to OGlekler for doing the translation into Russian
Hindi & Gujarati: meher is working with @rahuldsarker to sync the Hindi and Gujarati voice overs with the video.
Thanks to marks99 for all he has done pulling this and the other items together, and stepping in to pick up extra work.
  • Onboarding session volunteers: these sessions for WCEU Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/. attendees start next week.

How can you help?

  • If you are able to do a voiceover and captions, please let meher and webcommsat know. If you can’t do it for WCEU that’s fine, we can put you on the list for another contributor event version.
  • If you have offered to help out with onboarding new contributors, and have not attended a training session for that yet, please tell yvettesonnenfeld who will then contact you to set up training.
  • There is still time to add your name in as a volunteer to help with the onboarding sessions.

Request: We are going to be updating our Handbook to make it easier for new contributors to get started in Slack moving forward. We’ll be working out of this document. Ultimately, this will live in the handbook, and the overall goal is to make it easier to get up and running on Slack. While we are obviously focused on the marketing team, this isn’t specific to our group. In this document, we want to lay out the best practices and guidelines. This is especially important as we tackle questions of cross cultural communication and working async with a team.

How can you help?

  • Please jump in and add any perspective or help edit what is currently in the document.
  • If you still have questions about Slack, add them to the document, as you may not be the only one having that question.

Next Meeting

Wednesday 27 May 2020, 15:00 UTC, in the Marketing Channel on Make WordPress Slack.

Thank you everyone who has joined, attended, and updated the meeting, or contributed asynchronously in the last few days.
