Task Updates

Task: Forthcoming Contributor days/events

Task lead for: @webcommsat

Update provided by: @webcommsat

Update:

  1. WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Geneva has been postponed until later this year. We will continue to work with the camp on plans for Contributor DayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/.. Our thoughts are with the organizers.
  2. WordCamp Washington DC and its Contributor Day (29 March 2020) have been postponed. Sending our thoughts to the organizing team and all who would have been involved in the event.
  3. WordCamp Antwerp Contributor Day – we are in contact with the camp to have available three tasks for those interested in contributing to marketing. Please add yourself to the card if you will be attending or can help with the translation of some of the instructions for tasks.
  4. WordCamp Retreat in April has been postponed to 2021 – We send our thoughts to the organizers.
  5. WordCamp Malaga. We have sent a follow up to the organizer’s team
  6. Virtual WordCamp Asia MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area.
  7. WordCamp Europe – Porto, Portugal
Planning continues. Once tickets are available later in March, please either add yourself to the card if you will be attending the Marketing table this CD or wanting to work on tasks during the conference days.
  8. WordCamp Las Palmas Gran Canaria

Next steps for the task:

  1. Each of the WordCamps that are scheduled to have contributor events in the coming months have a card on Trello. If you are likely to be able to help with materials, be a language buddy, or just be attending and like to work on marketing tasks at these events, please either add a note to the card or contact me on Slack. We appreciate that not everyone is comfortable with having attendance at an event listed on a searchable website.

Task: Crisis / Urgent Communication for WordPress Developers

Task lead for: @webcommsat

Update provided by: @webcommsat

Update: We had a very useful task meeting on scenarios and the feedback from pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory https://wordpress.org/plugins/ or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party and theme developers/ creators on our related cards. Thanks to @mta1 and we will report back on this in more detail next week.

Next steps for the task: If anyone else has plugin or theme developer background and can help with the scenarios and communications messages, please let us know.

  • @pmbaldha and @nullbyte volunteered to assist. More discussion to take place next week.
  • there are additional opportunities for contribution available.

Update:

  1. We moved along this past week by working a bit on the charter document proposed by @mikerbg. This was an amazing working effort. It sought to pull together the scope and goals of the project. We have some points for the collaboration time which we would like to get the larger group’s input on today.

Next steps for the task:

  1. Join us this next week as we get together as a smaller working group to finalize our work on this proposed charter document

Collaboration

Task: Content Strategy Charter Proposal

Update provided by: @megphillips91

Request: Please help us on work on the language in the current Charter Proposal https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lD-cGs8prfj46OLu1KfhGcppyLQ_i7D3ggLwHe6II-o/edit?usp=sharing

  • During the collaboration on this document, @yvettesonneveld highlighted once more that the more voices we can add to this project, the more value it will offer. She recommended to be intentional in seeking the win-win across teams rather than outlining non-negotiables. If you have some time available, please share your thoughts in the document in suggestion mode. Particularly if you have experience with persuading large, diverse groups

Task: Component Maintainers post

Update provided by: @webcommsat, @JillianSmaxwell

Request:

  1. Component Maintainers/Core ContributorsCore Contributors Core contributors are those who have worked on a release of WordPress, by creating the functions or finding and patching bugs. These contributions are done through Trac. https://core.trac.wordpress.org.: Do we have any Component Maintainers or core contributors used to working with components in the marketing channel? If so, we would like your help and be able to capture the things that you particularly enjoy about the role to enthuse others. We may also be able to use some of this as quotes in a promotion post in marketing to be scheduled in the future, which would link to the updated page in Core.
  2. Second round editing help: Please add yourself to the Trello card if you have specialist knowledge of this area or reply to the thread in the meeting to @JillianSMaxwell if you are available to assist with technical queries / helping non-specialists understand the post/work of these maintainers.
