Contribution Marketing updates by @webcommsat
References: Contributor Orientation Tool, Contributor Day FAQ Day 1, Contributor Day FAQ Day 2, Contributor Day Glossary
- @webcommsat thanked everyone for their suggestions in the last few months Contributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/. FAQs and Contributor Orientation Tool being led by WCEU. If anyone is still interested in adding some suggestions on this and seeing how the FAQs can be used more widely as part of communicating and marketing WordCamps, please let @webcommsat know.
- @michelleames already indicated she wants to be involved with the above.
- All these resources also co-promote and support the contribution day/ event marketing information the Make WordPress Marketing Team has been involved in developing. @webcommsat will be creating a Trello card for a couple of short tasks related to these areas which would also be an easy place to start for anyone new to the team who has attended a Contributor event.
- @webcommsat asked @siobhansejja if journalists/ broadcasters / video-editors in the team are coming to WCEU who would be interested in helping with interviews he’s setting up this week jointly between WCEU and the Marketing team.
- @webcommsat and @michelleames are looking at how they can take this forward from a marketing and communications perspective and continue to involve some of the bigger WordCamps.@michelleames is keen on bringing in WCUS. London was involved this year and WCEU has led on various aspects. WordPress Translation Day was also involved in promoting and gathering data, some of which will be very useful in terms of marketing contributing to WordPress. We also have a willingness to assist a group of marketers based in Japan and India.
- @webcommsat wants to set up a strategy meeting to discuss how to take the Contributor Day resources forward in the first 10 days of July after WCEU and asked @aurooba @michelleames @siobhanseija for dates/timezones to set up a doodle poll with others as well who are able to help based in Italy, India and the US. @milana_cap will also be invited who is leading the Community team at WCEU.
- Meeting Topic: Reviewing the feedback on the work already done, identifying the ongoing communication issues, and pulling out suggestions for what marketing messages could be prioritized next and how to cross-use what is already out there.
- @webcommsat is also maintaining a list for @joostdevalk and sharing this with the Make Community team on the different materials, for when a main signposting home for contributor resources is found. @siobhanseija is also working on various ways of taking marketing forward for contribution events.
- The next steps for this project would be to look at effective ways of progressing the marketing work we have already done or worked with others on:
- Contribution days/events.
- Looking at the data that has come in from the wider promotion/ marketing team input into the ‘Ask me anything’/‘FAQs’
- Research and feedback to the contributor marketing features, and
- the marketing feedback which has come in and people may have on resources like the contributor orientation tool, and what this is showing about where new people are getting stuck in understanding how and why they should communicate.
- This then helps us identify marketing issues and work with other camps, like WCUS, etc and feedback to the community and WCEU, and can make any suggestions more data-focused and responsive to need.

New Business
Diversity Speaker Training Marketing updates from @yvettesonneveld and @aurooba
- @jillbinder has asked for the marketing team’s help to spread the word about Diversity Speaker Training, @aurooba is helping out with this and already talking to @jillbinder.
- @yvettesonneveld asked @aurooba to create a Trello card for this project so the team can help out and make sure the content created matches the WordPress tone of voice.
- Among the team reps, it’s agreed to always have 2 sets of eyes on content, before anything gets posted. And one of these sets of eyes needs to be a team rep A Team Rep is a person who represents the Make WordPress team to the rest of the project, make sure issues are raised and addressed as needed, and coordinates cross-team efforts. for quality assurance.
- @aurooba will be creating a Trello card and updating it with the progress and ideas @jillbinder and team have already brainstormed.
