Celebration/Achievements in the Last Week

  • @siobhanseija — We had the first contributor dayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of https://make.wordpress.org/ There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. https://2017.us.wordcamp.org/contributor-day/ https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/getting-started/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day/. at the Yoast offices and it was fun! A lot of people joined the marketing table (nearly 15, I think). I did (again) notice that it’s challenging to put people to work without them having much context or background within the team. I’ve yet to go through their work but I know 2 people were subtitling videos, and a team formed that brainstormed about GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ and stories to tell around it. Also: we have a few interns that are knee-deep in communication and marketing theories right now, so they made a doc in which they applied some of those ideas to WordPress. Should be some cool stuff in there! We’ll be having 4 of these days every year, I’m looking forward to them.
  • @michelleames — I was announced as the keynote for WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Buffalo, and completed orientation as an organizer for WCUS!
  • @sirjonathan — I completed the first phase of a research project, looking at WordPress usage in 100 different SaaS companies. Uncovered some really interesting insights (and a few surprising ones) that could provide useful content for future marketing initiatives.
  • @swinterroth — I spoke at WordPress Naperville last night (Near Chicago). Great group, lots of grassroots WP marketing.
  • @joostdevalk — Did a post on wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org//news/, which seems to have done well enough.
  • @yvettesonneveld — I was announced as a speaker at WordCamp Rotterdam.
  • @abhanonstopnewsuk — We have three marketing video submissions for videos in Chinese. The first ones in this language we have received. Thank you to the Chinese speakers who suggested them. We also had a few additions to the spreadsheet from the Contributor Day at Yoast including subtitling of videos, some additional language items added, and a couple of suggestions.

Task Lead Updates

  • @michelleames — I’ve started making some notes for one of the case studies that I’ve taken lead on, National Grocer. Probably take a few weeks before I have a draft ready for review.
  • @harryjackson1221 — Another WordPress Showcase Action Meeting in the works! We met this past Monday, and have created another Doodle to set up the next meeting in the coming week. We have outlined a few items that need to be fleshed out further, like the submission form and taxonomy organization. If you want to join, here are the upcoming meeting slots we have identified: https://doodle.com/poll/4h4cg9aaq33z6hwv
  • Feel free to DM me, or anyone else you see making changes to the Doodle and we can help to get you up to speed and share what we have so far.
  • @siobhanseijahttps://trello.com/c/xSdYhWbQ/243-why-you-should-contribute-to-wordpress — @abhanonstopnewsuk and I worked on finalizing this post throughout the week. It’ll be ready to publish later today!
  • @abhanonstopnewsuk — Thank you to everyone who has been involved in creating this feature and especially to @Maziar for developing it with me and particularly sourcing photographs. We have a number of onward promotion items for this and a version to updating the discussions with the community team.
  • @abhanonstopnewsuk — Sustainability post/series https://trello.com/c/DkVqaHCN
  • @michelleames would you have some time this work to help on this?
  • @Breann McDede has done a lot of work on this and we have other materials and cross-promotions with a number of WordCamps being published this week to coincide.
  • @harryjackson1221 can we have some of your lovely advice on the Google form question in the card, thanks
  • Anyone else who has been involved in sustainability at a WordCamp, please do add yourself you this card and we have lots you can do and help take this forward! It will be fun and sustainable too.
  • WordCamp London Contribution Day https://trello.com/c/lehg6Aho
  • If you are planning to be there, let us know as we are going to try and get a group picture (for those who are happy to be in this) and a chance for us all to meet up.
  • What should people expect at Sponsors Post https://trello.com/c/f4iXxZqb
  • @yvettesonneveld has asked for her firm’s sponsors lead tolookingk at the remaining questions. We should be good to then go back to the Community team. Thank,s everyone who has helped with sponsors information for this. Another great team effort.

New Business

  • @harryjackson1221 — Case Studies are also getting a revamp. @siobhanseija has created us a new board to track the duration of this content, which you can join here: https://trello.com/b/Ono8rTJK/case-studies-showcase
  • We are still getting everything moved over from the main marketing board, but can also use some help if anyone is interested. There are also quite a few case studies that need some love as well, which we will be moving over to the board as soon as possible!
  • @sirjonathan — I’m interested in the 5 for the Future Email Template card. Wondering if there is a way I can help move that forward?
  • @miker — Please feel free. We spent a lot of time talking about it last year and then at WCUS, but have focused on it less this year. We have a lot of backgrounds, and what we want to communicate, but we are really running into two issues. First, we need to create an actual template, but the bigger issue is what we will do with it. we don’t really have a strong distribution system for that type of content, especially for hosts/companies.
  • @sirjonathan — I created a tool called OpenRank (https://integrationindex.com/criteria/) to help companies figure out how well they’re integrating with WordPress. One of the criteria (scroll to the bottom) is their relationship with “5% for the Future”.
  • @yvettesonneveld — What if we were to create a Five For The Future page that would live on the main make.wordpress.org site. For instance in a submenu under get involved? We could write up some info for employees who’d like to persuade their employers, and for employers who consider it. We could add links to resources, like email copyright there. Additionally, we could ask table leaders at contributor days to mention it. Potential user stories to work from might be: As an employee of a company that uses WordPress, I’d like to persuade my employer to allow me to use some of my working hours to contribute so that we give back to the projector so that I can learn new skills or so that I can build out my network. And, as a business owner who relies on WordPress to generate income, I’d like to find out how I can set up a 5FTF program so that I can give back to the community.
  • @siobhanseijahttps://trello.com/c/ivm9wfcr/267-translate-hosting-page
  • Earlier today, Joost and I were talking about the hosting page on WordPress.org (https://wordpress.org/hosting). We’d like to have those “translated” for local WordPress communities. So step one is: finding out what local communities have an active marketing team. Who knows? I know there is a German team. This is not just about translating words actually but also finding the hosts that offer support in that specific language and mentioning them there.
  • @abhanonstopuknews — @zetaraffix is this something we could promote as part of WPTD4?
  • @abhanonstopuknews — Video interview card and subtitling card:
