Marketing Team Notes – April 25, 2018

Marketing Team Vision

Our vision for the Marketing Team is to be the go-to resource on strategy and content for other WordPress teams. We reiterate our mission each week so that everyone who is new to the team understands what our goals are. This helps with onboarding.

Getting Involved

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in, comment on posts, and participate in meetings and on projects. And, yes, you can add yourself to any Trello Card you’d like to work on.

Slack Timestamp

Today’s notes taken by:   @vishalmukadam

Meeting attended by: @harryjackson1221 @cjross @mcdwayne @maedahbatool @Machielle @bridgetwillard @brenneradams @miker @joe9663 @PriscillaBocage @jenblogs4u @vishalmukadam @dushanthi

Today, we began the meeting by going through the cards on our TrelloTrello Project management system using the concepts of boards and cards to organize tasks in a sane way. This is what the make.wordpress.com/marketing team uses for example: https://trello.com/b/8UGHVBu8/wp-marketing. board

Needs Approval

Create A Website: Copy on WP Marketing

https://trello.com/c/XWeHFJQG/133-create-a-website-copy

Task Lead: @miker

What is going well?

@miker The good news is that there will be a new contributor coming on to this card, as well as Create a Blog.  This should help to revise the copy to align with the GC.

I am adding the update to the card now.  I think this card needs to be taken out of Needs Approval, and put back to in progress.

What is at risk?

@miker

At this point, this card should be considered blocked pending additional direction.

The update is that they are having a new voice take a crack at it.  The feedback I got is that it is “close” but still not quite there.

What can someone new in Marketing help with?

@miker said one of the senior copywriter is going to help with this, so needs to put him on trello board.

@joe9663 added some copy to the sections for creating a website in a subdirectory and subdomain.  Waiting on feedback for GC

Notes:

Marketing team is still working on this task and trello card is on it, waiting for feedback from the Growth Council.

Read and Format Survey Answers on WP Marketing

https://trello.com/c/ZnT2LCjn/58-read-and-format-survey-answers

Task Lead: @harryjackson1221, @siobhanseija

Notes:

@harryjackson1221

This is serving now as a master card, I have some updates for the next two, but this is also a great way to get started writing copy to contribute for any new members looking for ways to jump in!

@Machielle is trying to help with this task

@brenneradams is already working on this task.

Menn-Neuralab Case Study

https://trello.com/c/5fc6FzWt/163-menn-neuralab-case-study

Task-Lead: @brenneradams

What is going well?   @harryjackson1221: There is some great copy written, but we need to flesh it out with the same structure as the previous case studies. Here is a great example of how we are setting those up: https://make.wordpress.org/marketing/2018/04/05/urban-southern-case-study/

What is at risk?  Nothing currently

What can someone new in Marketing help with? We have quite a few of these case studies left to format, and have published 3 so far since the beginning of the year. If you

Notes: @harryjackson1221:  I took the opportunity to bullet point the submission at top, so it makes it a little more clear what they are trying to convey. We are allowed to modify the copy, to help drive the point home and make it sound less technical. I also steered away from using jargon, like CRM or ERP, and instead just spelled out what they stand for

Close Marketing Case Study

https://trello.com/c/qGqAA6G5/165-closemarketing-case-study

Task-Lead: @brenneradams

What is going well?   We are starting to get more people involved in writing copy for these case studies, and it is going well. We need to ensure all of these are formatted with the same style outline, however if the info is not there, we do need to discuss possibly dropping some of the headings, especially The Obstacle and The Challenge, since they are both in the same realm. Some of the other submissions have enough info to fill these out, while others just do not

What is at risk?  Nothing right now

What can someone new in Marketing help with? We need help with formatting and writing copy, peer reviews of the text, etc… This is a great way to get started contributing to WordPress and the Marketing team, and we encourage your involvement!

Notes: @harryjackson1221: Added the outline to this doc, and bullet-pointed the submission, to help identify the information needed to flesh out the doc further.

Create A Blog: Copy & Wireframe

https://trello.com/c/tb2T16wq/124-create-a-blog-copy-wireframe

Task-lead: @miker @bridgetwillard @joe9663 @jenblogs4u

What is going well?

The feedback from the Growth Council is that they would like some additional work on the copy and voice. This is also similar to the feedback on the Create a Website. Christopher P will be working on the new drafts.

What is at risk?

Currently awaiting new draft.

Notes:   Waiting for feedback from the Growth Council like the feedback on the Create a Website.

https://trello.com/c/xOu9de8h/75-end-user-persona-doc
