Marketing Team Notes – April 4, 2018

Marketing Team Vision

Our vision for the Marketing Team is to be the go-to resource on strategy and content for other WordPress teams. We reiterate our mission each week so that everyone who is new to the team understands what our goals are. This helps with onboarding.

Getting Involved

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in, comment on posts, and participate in meetings and on projects. And, yes, you can add yourself to any Trello Card you’d like to work on.

Today’s Meeting

Slack Timestamp

We changed our format a bit by adding an agenda where task leads can answer three questions.

  1. What is going well?
  2. What is at risk?
  3. What can someone new in Marketing help with?

Needs Approval

WCUS GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. Create A Website: Copy on WP Marketing

Task Lead: @miker

What is going well? Initial draft complete. Awaiting review and sign off from Growth Council.

What is at risk? Approval needed.

What can someone new in Marketing help with? Nothing

Miker- Yeah, that is basically in holding until further guidance from @michellet or other invested parties. At this point, there is nothing really that a new person could assist with. Todd also indicated that there would be more review from the GC, so that represents his feedback, but not necessarily the GC’s. Yes needs approval. @miker I will follow up with @Todd Robinson on this and circle back with you asap.

Marketing Team Handbook Master Tasks on WP Marketing

Task Lead: @harryjackson1221

Needs for this card are the listed here, and we have recently discussed having another sprint day to tackle this with a team effort:

Handbook – Marketing Team Badges

This card needs copy developed for anyone wanting to jump in on a task

Handbook – How to start contributing to a current project

We previously discussed summarizing what we have to build a “quick start” guide

Getting Started on a Project

Handbook – Tools & Resources

Perhaps more discussion of what can go in this doc for resources? Things like readability apps (Grammarly)? We have the tools pretty well outlined, but should concentrate on adding any possible resources people would use

Handbook – What skillsets are currently needed?

This looks pretty close to complete

Handbook – Writing copy for the description of a new release

This looks pretty close to complete

Handbook: Copy Guidelines

This doc needs some love

The Marketing Leadership team will be organizing a sprint in the near future to complete the handbook

To Do

Gutenberg Testing Outreach

Task-leads: @miker @jadonn

Need approximately 100 hours of volunteer time to test various Gutenberg items.
General Gutenberg testing awareness and outreach.

What can someone new in Marketing help with?

We need copy about why we are encouraging them to participate, and how important it is for the Gutenberg launch to be as successful as possible. We could use like 300 words on that, and then flush out the technical details with the hosting-community team.

McDwayne to create a doc and add to card to better describe the needs.

New Business
