Marketing the Community – August 2, 2017, Meeting Notes

Recap of Goals/Scope:
Marketing the WordPress Community: this subgroup feel strongly that the community is a very big selling point of the software, and promoting some of the things that are coming out of the community would raise awareness and encourage adoption of the software; that could include raise awareness about accessibilityAccessibility Accessibility (commonly shortened to a11y) refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments for people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design ensures both “direct access” (i.e. unassisted) and “indirect access” meaning compatibility with a person’s assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accessibility) or internationalization advancements, or even helping local groups with marketing materials or resources for their community. - Contributor Video Plan was published 7/5 and that campaign is ongoing though there have been no submissions to date.
- As co-team repTeam Rep A Team Rep is a person who represents the Make WordPress team to the rest of the project, make sure issues are raised and addressed as needed, and coordinates cross-team efforts., Bridget is publishing to the Team Update blog weekly.

- Ways to Promote your MeetupMeetup All local/regional gatherings that are officially a part of the WordPress world but are not WordCamps are organized through https://www.meetup.com/. A meetup is typically a chance for local WordPress users to get together and share new ideas and seek help from one another. Searching for ‘WordPress’ on meetup.com will help you find options in your area. (to be published on the Community P2).
- Strategy and content to provide content support for meetups with low content”. @bridgetwillard started a Google Doc.

- @newyorkerlaura 10 topics to jumpstart your meetup? And think of things that might have a low entry point where speakers wouldn’t be intimidated.

Global WordPress Translation Day
@coachbirgit brings up, Polyglots teamPolyglots Team Polyglots Team is a group of multilingual translators who work on translating plugins, themes, documentation, and front-facing marketing copy. https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/. is on it to organize the third Global WordPress Translation Day on 30th, September 2017.
- We decided to create an editorial calendar and scheduled tweets to tease the event to educate and to motivate organizer to host local translation sprint events on this day
