Marketing ideas for Contributions Project Ideas At WCEU…

Marketing ideas for Contributions / Project Ideas

At WCEU 2015, we took 10-15 minutes to brainstorm some ways that we could contribute back to the Community and here are a few things we came up with:

  • 1-page datasheet/flyer about WordPress features (we worked on this at WCUS!! Update soon)
  • Information banners with infographics
  • Comparison charts of different CMS
  • 1-page summary of the WordPress ecosystem (or a map/graphic)
  • Infographic about security? non-technical
  • Benefits of open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL.
  • Redesign features page
  • Modular Landing page for presenting WordPress
  • Redesign tag landing page tempate for .org Showcase with tag description/intro
  • Country-specific landing pages (aka tag landing page) for .org Showcase

and a few more from my own thoughts / ideas over time:

  • Get the open source presentation, started at WCEU 2014 and not complete, up on GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner. https://github.com/ so others can hack on it (coming soon!)
  • Request / solicit some of the existing WordPress white papers published be donated to public domain (like the Security white paper is) so others can translate and utilize.
  • Collect case studies across the WP world for highlight organized by use case, industry, implementation.
  • Encourage global communities to submit the top 5 most famous WP sites –> the .org Showcase.
  • Insert links to case studies for any Showcase sites on .org back into those showcase pages.

Also a note to myself to write up some guidelines on how anyone can contribute existing materials –> .org marketing (i.e., preparing it for public domain licensing, etc.)

If you have an idea, feel free to leave it as a comment on this post so others can see your idea and it can potentially be worked on in the future.
