Happening in Krak\u00f3w, Poland, on June 4-6th, with a <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Hosting<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Hosting<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web.<\/span><\/span><\/span> table at <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Contributor Day<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Contributor Day<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. They are events where people get together to work on various areas of <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/\">https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/<\/a> There are many teams that people can participate in, each with a different focus. <a href=\"https:\/\/2017.us.wordcamp.org\/contributor-day\/\">https:\/\/2017.us.wordcamp.org\/contributor-day\/<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/support\/handbook\/getting-started\/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day\/\">https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/support\/handbook\/getting-started\/getting-started-at-a-contributor-day\/<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span> on June 4th!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/us.wordcamp.org\/2025\/schedule\/#contributor-day\">Contributor Days<\/a> kick off each flagship <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>WordCamp<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>WordCamp<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they\u2019ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. <a href=\"https:\/\/central.wordcamp.org\/about\/\">Learn more<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span> with a focus on community: dedicating a day for folks to come together to contribute to the WordPress <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Open Source<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Open Source<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified.  Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL.<\/span><\/span><\/span> Project. Thank you all for your contributions to the team!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the WCEU \u201826 Hosting table, you\u2019re invited to work on <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/hosting\/team-projects\/\">team projects<\/a>, like the distributed testing software and hosting handbooks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does the Hosting team do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hosting team collaborates with web hosts and WordPress <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Core<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Core<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Team builds WordPress.<\/span><\/span><\/span> to maintain infrastructure-focused documentation and facilitate testing of pre-release WordPress versions on hosting systems. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/chat\/\">https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/chat\/<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span> account, a <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>GitHub<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>GitHub<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories that can can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced the concept of the \u2018pull request\u2019 where code changes done in branches by contributors can be reviewed and discussed before being merged be the repository owner.<\/span><\/span><\/span> account, and a computer with <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>Git<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Git<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>Git is a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency. Git is easy to learn and has a tiny footprint with lightning fast performance. Most modern plugin and theme development is being done with this version control system.<\/span><\/span><\/span> and a text or code editing software \u2013 because the team maintains <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/hosting\/handbook\/get-involved\/team-projects\/\">handbook and automated testing projects<\/a> through GitHub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hop into the <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/hosting\/tag\/hosting\/\">#hosting<\/a> Slack channel at any time with any questions or comments, especially if you\u2019re contributing remotely, and feel free to join the <a href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/hosting\/tag\/contributor-day\/\">#contributor-day<\/a> Slack channel too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Join In Person:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those attending WCEU Contributor Day in person, check-in starts at 8:30 am local time. If you need help troubleshooting, the Hosting table is a perfect place to ask!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Test Runner improvements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This Contributor Day, let\u2019s make progress on testing software development:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/phpunit-test-runner\/pulls?q=is%3Apr+is%3Aopen+label%3A%22needs+testing%22\">Existing pull requests need to be tested<\/a> on hosting infrastructure, iterated on if need be, and hopefully merged. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The runner\/reporter repositories <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/phpunit-test-runner\/issues\/274\">need a cicd pipeline<\/a> implemented that includes automated tests in <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>LAMP<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>LAMP<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) is a very common example of a web service stack of four open-source components: the Linux operating system, the Apache HTTP Server, the MySQL relational database management system (RDBMS), and the PHP programming language.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\/<span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>LEMP<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>LEMP<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>LEMP (Linux, nginx, MySQL, PHP) is a very common example of a web service stack of four open-source components: the Linux operating system, the nginx web server, the MySQL relational database management system (RDBMS), and the PHP programming language.<\/span><\/span><\/span> containers that mimic hosting infrastructure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/phpunit-test-runner\/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20label%3Abug\">Runner errors need debugging<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/phpunit-test-runner\/issues?q=state%3Aopen%20label%3A%22tooling%22\">Tooling improvements<\/a> like <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/phpunit-test-runner\/issues\/316\">notices to hosts about reporting failures<\/a> need to be implemented.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or just snag any ticket you like, dig in, push, open, review, and test! This year the highest priority for handbooks is creating <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/hosting-handbook\/issues\/393\">7.0<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/hosting-handbook\/issues\/397\">7.1<\/a> <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>PHP<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>PHP<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is a general-purpose scripting language especially suited to web development. PHP code is usually processed on a web server by a PHP interpreter. On a web server, the result of the interpreted and executed PHP code would form the whole or part of an HTTP response.<\/span><\/span><\/span> compatibility documentation in the Hosting Handbook, and the Advanced Admin handbook has a number of open PRs for review and tickets that need folks to work on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tickets and PRs to work on the handbooks are available here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/hosting-handbook\/labels\/WCEU26\">Hosting Handbook Contributor Day tickets\/PRs<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/Advanced-administration-handbook\/labels\/WCEU26\">Advanced Admin Handbook Contributor Day tickets\/PRs<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone that speaks basic English can contribute to the Handbooks!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting Started<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To work on open tickets<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1) <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.github.com\/en\/pull-requests\/collaborating-with-pull-requests\/working-with-forks\/fork-a-repo\">Fork the repository<\/a> you wish to work on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2) Pick an issue and mention in the issue comments that you\u2019re going to work on it. If you\u2019re a member of the WordPress GitHub organization, assign the issue to yourself in GitHub. Otherwise a lead will assign the ticket to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3) Name your branch with the issue number, your name, and a <code>WCEU26<\/code> prefix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, if I want to work on <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/WordPress\/hosting-handbook\/issues\/393\">Hosting Handbook issue #393<\/a>, I\u2019ll first comment that I am working on it, then hit the \u2018assign yourself\u2019 button on the upper right of the issue. Next, I\u2019ll make a new fork of the repo or <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.github.com\/en\/pull-requests\/collaborating-with-pull-requests\/working-with-forks\/syncing-a-fork\">sync my existing fork<\/a>, and git clone onto my local dev environment, or git pull into the \u2018master\u2019 branch on my existing clone. From there, I\u2019ll checkout a new branch from main with the name <code>WCEU26-393-amykamala<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Learn <a href=\"https:\/\/git-scm.com\/book\/en\/v2\/Getting-Started-Installing-Git\">how to install Git here<\/a>, and some basic <a href=\"https:\/\/git-scm.com\/docs\">Git commands<\/a> to get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reviews<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you\u2019ve pushed your changes and opened a new pull request, tag some reviewers on the upper right of the PR. If you don\u2019t know who to tag, feel free to tag a <span tabindex='0' class='glossary-item-container'>team rep<span class='glossary-item-hidden-content'><span class='glossary-item-header'>Team Rep<\/span> <span class='glossary-item-description'>A Team Rep is a person who represents the Make WordPress team to the rest of the project, make sure issues are raised and addressed as needed, and coordinates cross-team efforts.<\/span><\/span><\/span>: <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/kittenkamala\">@kittenkamala<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zunaid321\">@zunaid<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jazzsequence\">@jazzsequence<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re reviewing work yourself, make sure you\u2019re added as a reviewer on the upper right of the ticket, and comment on the PR with any feedback with a mention of WCEU CD 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Testing and Merges<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PRs must have 2 approvals and be fully up to date with the base branch in order to be merged. Pay attention to the comments on your PRs in case follow up is needed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Changes to the testing software must be tested on a hosting platform prior to being merged. If you\u2019re doing testing make sure to comment on the PR with your findings, the hosting platform\/specs, and don\u2019t forget to mention in the comment that you tested during WCEU CD 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">See You There!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contributor Days are always fun and inspiring, and it\u2019s rewarding to build momentum on WordPress initiatives as a community.
