The first thing that was checked was if this library is in PHPPHP PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is a general-purpose scripting language especially suited to web development. PHP code is usually processed on a web server by a PHP interpreter. On a web server, the result of the interpreted and executed PHP code would form the whole or part of an HTTP response. 8.0 since in the documentation it does not appear as such, although @javiercasares analyzed at that time and it seems that it is available. On the other hand @mikeschroder found the source code in Github of the intl extension.

After several analyses, taking into account that half of the WordPress are used in a language that is not the native (English) and that many, therefore, the internationalization is something potential of WordPress, the Hosting team considers that the installation of the PHP-intl extension (Internationalization) should be recommended in the PHP Handbook.

On a web server, the result of the interpreted and executed PHP code would form the whole or part of an HTTP response. 8.0 since in the documentation it does not appear as such, although @javiercasares analyzed at that time and it seems that it is available.

On the other hand @mikeschroder found the source code in Github of the intl extension.

In any case it has been given cause to be analyzed during the next week and if anyone finds anything comment on the ticket.

After last week’s meeting, we have the WPHosting Meetup group opened and pending review by the Community team.

The next steps would be:

  1. Find a speaker and topic.
  2. Find a date
  3. See on which Youtube channel we are going to broadcast (if we finally do it through the official one and how).

On the other hand, we should consider opening a site to receive proposals for talks, either in English or in other languages.

Should we create a working group, outside the weekly meetings, but open on the channel, to discuss this matter? Who is interested in getting involved in all this? Please, leave a comment with your proposals.

The operation defined for the events will be as follows:

  1. We will manage everything from https://www.meetup.com/wphosting/
  2. We will publish event notes (and even the broadcast embed, if possible) in the make/hosting.
  3. We will cross-meetup with Learn WordPress.

The next steps are to define an agenda of at least 2-3 events, the frequency, how we are going to choose the speakers… and start!

In a first general question on topics that can be addressed, the following have popped up:

In the first meeting, @_dorsvenabili visited us and presented the Learn WordPress project and invited us to participate in the project.

The operation of WordPress Hosting Live will be to work on the one hand from our own Meetup group, and in parallel collaborate with the Learn WordPress group.

  • By default all events will be published from meetup.com/wphosting/. Submissions, communications and main publications will be in this group.
  • In parallel, event posts will be notified from make/hosting, and will include the “embeds” of the live events.
  • When a new event is published, it will be discussed with the Learn WordPress team to make a cross-event with their group.

A first version of the operation, tools and methodologies for WordPress Hosting Live is presented in the Handbook.

Tide Team

From the Tide Team, @jeffpaul tells us that the project continues at a good pace and very advanced and that we have news at staging.wptide.org. In addition, the PHP Compatibility Checker pluginPlugin A plugin is a piece of software containing a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites. WordPress plugins are written in the PHP programming language and integrate seamlessly with WordPress. These can be free in the WordPress.org Plugin Directory or can be cost-based plugin from a third-party. is being refactored.

Weekly meeting DST update

A change in the first meeting times will be made next week.

It should be noted that the Core team is not going to make any more changes due to DST, so for the next time change (around October) it is proposed to open a discussion to maintain the fixed times in UTC.

@javiercasares has been talking with @_dorsvenabili about the best solution for the WordPress Hosting Live broadcast.

  1. The Hosting team’s talks that are going to be directed to “end users” could be given within the Learn WordPress Meetups, always focused with a didactic spirit. If anyone is interested in giving a talk they can talk to the Learn WordPress team or contact one of the Team Reps who will facilitate contact with the team.
  2. Hosting team talks aimed at “hosting professionals” could be done through a new Meetup channel. It is pending to pass access to the WordPress team, but I have the Meetup WordPress Hosting created.
    In the coming days the Community team will be asked to join the WordPress Meetup Pro.
  3. We would use a channel within the WordPress YouTube specifically for Hosting. For broadcasting we could use StreamYard or similar.
    It remains to talk to the Community team to see if we can make use of the channel or create our own channel.

@javiercasares will talk with the Community team to find the best solutions that the rest of the teams are currently using and thus have a common offer for all.

The proposal for the talks would be to make an introduction of 5-10 minutes by the presenters, then the talk / presentation of about 50 minutes and finally a space of about 30 minutes for questions.

The goal will be to make a monthly presentation in English, with the possibility of having interspersed presentations in other languages (@javiercasares has shown interest in making some in Spanish).

WordPress Hosting Page/Site

The Hosting team has made a proposal to the Meta team on how the new Hosting page could be updated. The goal is to propose a simpler and more standardized system when proposing a new WordPress hosting provider and that everyone has the same options.

This system is intended to facilitate the analysis and approval, which could be done by a sub team within the Hosting Team with people who are and know the world of hosting but do not work directly in any hosting company and thus avoid conflicts of interest.

In a next step the proposal would be passed to @chanthaboune for a first review and the team would be at MetaMeta Meta is a term that refers to the inside workings of a group. For us, this is the team that works on internal WordPress sites like WordCamp Central and Make WordPress.’s disposal in case we can help more in this project.
