## HostingHosting A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Meeting Notes

The idea of posting an Agenda post prior to the meetings was recommended and folks
present seemed to support the idea.

Reasons given included:

 * Helpful for letting folks who can’t attend bring things up async.
 * Developing habits to better documentation is beneficial for future folks when
   more things are going on..

[@mikeschroder](https://profiles.wordpress.org/mikeschroder/) is going to chat with
[@jadonn](https://profiles.wordpress.org/jadonn/) about this.

[@kenshino](https://profiles.wordpress.org/kenshino/) suggested having statistics
in the meetings would help growing the team. Polyglots teamPolyglots Team Polyglots

We need to figure out what sorts of metrics would be interesting to know. These
ideas were given:

 * [@kenshino](https://profiles.wordpress.org/kenshino/): How many hosts are working
   with the team
 * [@javiercasares](https://profiles.wordpress.org/javiercasares/): PHPPHP PHP (
   PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is a general-purpose scripting language especially
   suited to web development. PHP code is usually processed on a web server by a
   PHP interpreter. On a web server, the result of the interpreted and executed
   PHP code would form the whole or part of an HTTP response. versions, DatabaseDatabase
   A database is an organized collection of data. Access to this data is usually
   provided by a "database management system" (DBMS) consisting of an integrated
   set of computer software that allows users to interact with one or more databases
   and provides access to all of the data contained in the database. Because of
   the close relationship between them, the term "database" is often used casually
   to refer to both a database and the DBMS used to manipulate it. versions, and
   some of the statistics at wordpress.orgWordPress.org The community site where
   WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download
   the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central
   location for community conversations and organization. [https://wordpress.org/](https://wordpress.org/)
   site
 * [@mikeschroder](https://profiles.wordpress.org/mikeschroder/): WP.org knows how
   the PHP version numbers shift between hosts. We haven’t mentioned them to avoid
   shaming hosts. It would be great to use these to incentivize upgrades. details
   on hosts that have had success/a large amount of upgrades to new versions?

[@shinichin](https://profiles.wordpress.org/shinichin/) noted that there’s a difference
in how hosting providers are involved among countries. Some feel that they are part
of the community and others don’t see that way.

We didn’t have the time to discuss:

 * WordPress 5.2
 * Idle Hosting Test Runners

[@shinichin](https://profiles.wordpress.org/shinichin/) raised a topic for the next
meeting: “PHP version update workshop at WordCamps”

[@mikeschroder](https://profiles.wordpress.org/mikeschroder/) mentioned two things
related to 5.2:

 1. [@clorith](https://profiles.wordpress.org/clorith/) posted this Site HealthSite
    Health This WordPress functionality will perform a number of checks on your installation
    to detect common configuration errors and known issues, and also allows plugins
    and themes to add their own checks. dev note to the chat late last week (thank
    you!!): [https://make.wordpress.org/core/2019/04/25/site-health-check-in-5-2/](https://make.wordpress.org/core/2019/04/25/site-health-check-in-5-2/)
 2. 5.2 got pushed back by a week, and is now being released on the 7th: [https://make.wordpress.org/core/5-2/](https://make.wordpress.org/core/5-2/)
