Hosting Meeting Notes: March 27, 2019

Here’s the summary of our meetings in #hosting-community on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 0900 UTC and on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 1800 UTC. (Slack archive).

New Meeting Time – Continued Discussion

Thank you for participating in last week’s poll!

Per @mikeschroder the poll results highlighted two main times when two different sets of 10 people can attend a meeting.

The proposed new times are: Wednesdays at 1800 UTC and Monday at 1400 UTC.

Meeting notes will be used for more asynchronous communication.

Options proposed by folks attending the chat were:
1) Alternate two meeting times/dates.
2) Change the meeting time to 1600 or 1700 UTC.
3) Hold two separate weekly meetings at two separate times.
4) Keep the current meeting time.

WordPress 5.2 BetaBeta Beta is the software development phase following alpha. A Beta phase generally begins when the software is feature complete but likely to contain a number of known or unknown bugs. Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, speed or performance issues, and may still cause crashes or data loss. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. Release Rescheduled for March 27th

WordPress 5.2 supports PHPPHP PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is a general-purpose scripting language especially suited to web development. PHP code is usually processed on a web server by a PHP interpreter. On a web server, the result of the interpreted and executed PHP code would form the whole or part of an HTTP response. 5.6.20+

Introducing the new Site HealthSite Health This WordPress functionality will perform a number of checks on your installation to detect common configuration errors and known issues, and also allows plugins and themes to add their own checks. module!

Hosts may be interested in the ability to extend the health tool by adding tests to the Status page, or additional information to the Debug tab.

@earnjam is working on coordinating dev notes for WordPress 5.2 with more info on the Health Check tool.

Since I probably won’t be able to make the meeting tonight, figured I’d forward on some feedback in here.

It’s pretty rare that there’s as much feedback as the team got in this poll — that’s super great! Thank you, everyone!!

Because so many additional people can only attend at an alternate time (it could up to double the attendance), personally, I think it’s worth giving a second meeting a go, having one on Wednesdays at 1800 or 1700 UTC and the other Monday at 1400 UTC.

I think alternating each week or doing them both each week are totally valid options and would love to hear what folks think. If it turns out that having another option for the meeting time doesn’t increase the total folks that attend, then the team can re-evaluate whether it was worthwhile or not.

I propose doing one of the two (alternating or additional) for a month, then discuss how it went, in respective chats and here on the team’s site.

  I support alternating them. Having (almost) the same meeting (assumption from my side about “two separate SlackSlack Slack is a Collaborative Group Chat Platform https://slack.com/. The WordPress community has its own Slack Channel at https://make.wordpress.org/chat/. meetings”) does not feel like added value. For example, you added your opinion as a comment here while you could not attend, this keeps all feedback at a single place.
  
  If you’d have two meetings, should the later one add comments to the points of the first? Do they have to be edited in manually? That feels like more work than needed.

  I think alternating them too would be worth a try 1800hrs and 1400hrs UTC could work.
