Hosting Meeting Notes: February 13, 2019

Here’s the summary of our meeting in #hosting-community on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 1800 UTC (Slack archive).

Attendees: @mikeschroder @Fahim Murshed @aaroncampbell @Ugyen @brettface @brechtryckaert @kenshino @earnjam @Andrew Jones @RonG

Personal Announcement

@mikeschroder indicated that he’s moving to Japan, so he’ll be unavailable from now until the week of the 18th of March, when he’ll be fully available again. @brechtryckaert offered to help out during @mikeschroder‘s absence. @mikeschroder also indicated that @jadonn might also be able to do part of the work and suggested connecting in the following days to work out a plan.

@mikeschroder also indicates that this will impact his hours of availability. The current chat would be at 3 am local time for him. While he’s able to shift it for an hour or two, he’s interested to hear our input on the possibility of a second meeting in Slack, focussed on the APAC or APAC/EU regions. @mikeschroder also indicated willingness to lead that meeting. @aaroncampbell suggests starting a Doodle for this.

End-To-End (E2E) Testing

@mikeschroder reports he has just about got GoDaddy’s setup with the current tests running well, and it’s brought up good bugs/enhancements for the test runner. @earnjam indicated Bluehost has been set up since yesterday. @Andrew Jones indicated A2 Hosting should have this up by early next week.

@mikeschroder also reminds us about the porting initiative for these E2E-tests:
If you work at a host and aren’t already aware, this team has a tool that allows hosts to set up PHPUnit tests to get run against their environment, so that it’s clear when either WordPress trunk has broken some things at hosts, or hosting environments aren’t compatible with trunk: https://make.wordpress.org/hosting/test-results/

WordPress 5.1

@mikeschroder reminds us about WordPress 5.1 which is nearing release. This version adds a notice to the dashboard indicating that they are running and outdated PHP version if this version is < 5.6. He requests us to help test the release candidate.
