Announcements/Reminders

• Try GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ is currently in the betaBeta Beta is the software development phase following alpha. A Beta phase generally begins when the software is feature complete but likely to contain a number of known or unknown bugs. Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, speed or performance issues, and may still cause crashes or data loss. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. release of WordPress 4.9.8
  
  • WordPress 4.9.8 is due for general release on July 31st

• @andrewtaylor-1 reported the pull request from WordCamp Europe has been submitted
  
  • @andrewtaylor-1 will do a final review with @mikeschroder
• @andrewtaylor-1 mentioned that @pdclark has also submitted a new issue with some content suggestions

Gutenberg

• @danielbachhuber published a blog post with an update on the major reported blockers for Try Gutenberg
  • The post addresses the issues (listed below) mentioned in last week’s meeting as blockers to more widespread adoption of Gutenberg by hosting companies
    • #4681: Create deprecation plan for the “Gutenberg” name 
    • #3900: 1.9.1: Gutenberg breaks “classic” posts w/ shortcodes by carelessly wrapping shortcodes into 
      tags
    • #4672: Unexpected content changes toggling Classic editor from Text to Visual to Text
• Hosts were invited to report on their plans for preparing for Try Gutenberg’s launch
  • @jadonn reported InMotion Hosting was working with partners to get access to the educational content from Gutenberg Courses
  • No other hosts had anything to report at this meeting
• @jadonn asked for feedback for the Try Gutenberg Support Best Practices Documentation
  • This document is an ongoing work to develop a shared living resource hosting support teams can use to collaborate on best practices.

• @clorith from the WordPress.orgWordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org/ #forums team announced the WordPress.org Support Forums team will be creating a clearinghouse for Gutenberg support-related information during the release phase
  • @clorith invited the #hosting-community team to coordinate with the #forums team’s efforts for supporting Gutenberg users and for collecting feedback and data from Gutenberg users
